Can someone refresh my memory as to why they made a movie about that team. I really can't remember. Thanks

    Re: The Final Season

I will be going to see it tonight... Its about a team that won something like 20 state championships in 23 years. The school was going to be consolidated and ended up winning State again even without their legendary coach...The town lives and breathes baseball... Unfortunately they changed the names of all the players and added some sappy love story and story of a kid moving in from Chicago. Aparantly they also added a bunch of cheesey small town lines and what not... I am glad they made the movie and a good friend of our family, I just wish they would have kept it a true story and not fiction...

    Re: The Final Season

Movie is about the final season before Norway merged with Benton Community. Prior to that Norway (pop 500-1000) had won 19 state championships and were just coming off their latest one. In an effort to convince more people the consolidation was necessary the coach of many years was forced out by the administration and one of his young assistants was asked to take over. The team had lost a ton of starters from the year before and there was talk of not having a season during the merger.

The movie follows the final teams run to state under the new coach.

    Re: The Final Season

Funny thing was the team was so dominant that the losses they had really didn't hurt them, plus the coach was a jerk... The one big loss was Tyson Kimm who ended up playing pro ball for a while... He decided to spend the summer following around his dad and the San Diego Padres...

    Re: The Final Season

I just hope they don't make 1990 Iowa look like the 1940's. It seems Hollywood always insists on making Iowa look like everyone's naive and 50 years behind the rest of the country.

Well the movie was written, produced and for the most part made by Iowans, so it shouldn't but from the reviews I think it is... I guess there are alot of jokes about small towns and what not... I will have a full review on it tomorrow...

Side note, this will mark the 7th baseball field I have played on that I know to be in a movie!

Edit, 8th, I guess there are two fields I have played on in this movie...

Did anyone else hear the Tom Arnold interview with Dan Patrick? I swear that guy was buzzin on something ... he rambled between his life and the characters life and never made much sense at all. I was a little embarrassed to hear him try to act like the Iowa expert for the nation. For God's sake Tom, Norway is more than 20 miles from the field of dreams! (one of his valuable insights)

Hoosiers didn't keep it true to the story and it was better because of it.

I hope its really good. I'm going to see it tonight. I mostly hope I can see myself as an extra.

    Re: The Final Season

Just got back from seeing the Final Season, exceptional movie in my opinion but I don't know if I was so proud of it because I am an Iowan or it is that good of a movie. It definately has a chance to become another Hoosiers or Rudy. Sean Astin was just as good in this as he was in Rudy. The filming made Iowa look awesome and the reaccuring train theme messed with my head.

    Re: The Final Season

I just got back from it as well. I am not completely sure what I thought of it. I thought it was good, but not great, and that is coming from a guy who was actually in the movie. Some of the acting and screenplay just didn't mesh with me well, and that may have been because I saw some things most people wouldn't see that comes about because I was on set for a while. Who knows, I am definitely not disappointed though.

I am on the fire truck in the parade scene after the team wins their 19th championship, and I might have been in it twice but missed it, will have to either wait till it comes out on DVD or go back and see it again to make sure.
