    Sponsorships?

Anybody here have any info they can give or a business they would like to advertise? I am helping coach my daughters 8U competetive softball team & we are looking for ways to raise money. We have distributed a few sponsorship letters asking for $100 to have company names put on our banner. We are doing a couple candy & caseys pizza card fundraisers also. I have heard of teams getting grants but don't know where to start for that. If you have a business in Central Iowa interested in sponsoring us or have any info of ways to raise money let me know. We are looking at a $4K+ budget if we play every weekend so everything helps!

    Re: Sponsorships?

4k in annual expenses? Seems a little high to me, but do know some membership fees are high. Get one or two major sponsors, paste their names on the jerseys, aka name your team after them. If you are starting from scratch, you may get grants for equipment or so, most grants don't like to fund yearly operations.

EDIT. Ask them personally, letters don't cut it. Generally your real estate, car dealerships, etc are best bets. Someone who works on commission will generally pony up. Insurance companies once in a while.

    Re: Sponsorships?

Softball is expensive! Roughly $2,500 is just for spring league & tournaments & the another $1K for indoor practice time this time of year. Add in uniforms & some equipment. We have collected some & probably will get more from parents but would like to lessen that blow as much as possible.

And most places we dropped letters off at we talked directly to managers or owners but that wasn't always possible. I do plan to follow up to see if they got them & have had a chance to look them over.

That would basically 1-2 grade. Young for my area, but every place is different.

    It's mainly 2nd & 3rd graders & yes it's pretty common. It's coach pitch & you play 4 outfielders.

I remember playing really competitive baseball from a young age. I loved baseball but by the constant year round playing lead me and to most of my team not playing in high school. Not saying it is like this for everyone, but unless you really love the game and love to practice nothing good comes out of playing that much of one sport from a young age.

I have never heard of it starting that young though and I had some friends whose parents were relentless when it came to sports.

Not necessarily. All of our girls love playing & we make it more about having fun. We practice once or twice a week & then play on weekends. Rec leagues around here have vanished to the point that they are filled with the kids whose parents are forcing them to play so the ones who actually like it arent learning much. We are all entitled to our own opinions though & I respect you for having yours.

    Re: Sponsorships?

I am definitely not judging anyone or anything with this. I think it's good that parents take an interest in their kids, the cost just kinda surprised me. My sons football league is not even half that annually with equipment.

We start wrestling up here at age 4-5, so I do know that some sports start early. I envisioned player pitch, the coach pitch makes more sense to me.

    Re: Sponsorships?

We were able to raise over $1000 in six hours washing cars last year for our local little league. Another idea that we are kicking around for my sons 12U USSA team is a team garage sale. To bad your local options(rec league) aren't good. Our communities little league program does an adequate job up until about age 11. We did not start going to tournaments until then.
