Would love to hear others' opinion on the Big 12 all league teams/awards this year. Some tough decisions to make.

    Re: Blum's Big 12 Bulletin: 2-14 Edition

If Withey continues this tear it will be hard to keep him off the 1st team but you surely can't have Taylor, Robinson, and Withey all on the 1st team, can you?

If White makes it I think he'll be the last one on....Denmon is probably a lock. Ratliffe is knocking on the door and J'Covan Brown or Rod McGruder could have an argument depening on how they and their teams finish.

    I think I'd go...

    1st
    Taylor
    Denmon
    Robinson
    White
    Perry Jones (Baylor representation)

    2nd
    P. Jackson
    Pressey
    Brown
    Withey
    Ratliffe

    3rd
    Pledger
    Jackson
    McGruder
    English
    Nash (struggled to get #5)

With little to no statistical research, just based on what i've watched, I feel like Pledger on the 3rd team is low. Also, English is... overrated I think. He's good, just not sure he's all-conf good.

Blum - I know its way early, and I should t ever leave KU off this list, but I think looking ahead to next year, that the three teams I'm buying are Texas, Iowa State, and Oklahoma State. What you say? May not necessarily be tops in the league, just stand to improve a lot based on personnel.

Hard to argue with a lot of that. I think Babb has a chance of beating out Withey for defensive player of the year. Withey has been outstanding and blocks a lot of shots, but I don't believe he's asked to do what Babb has done (take the best player out from the opposing team on a nightly basis)- very successfully I might add.

I tend to agree with you, however nobody (a bit of exaggeration) knows or talks about Babb.

I just don't see what's so great about Perry Jones. I think maybe Quincy Acy instead of Nash just because Nash hasn't really been a factor for half the year and Acy is more of a forward. The Big 12 is pretty weak at post this year.

    Cy has balls of steel.

I don't pay a ton of attention to all-conference teams (not in the lead-up phase), but I'd love to see Babb get that award, for that very reason. It's one thing to have your best defensive player assigned to an opponent's top player in a majority of games. That's what usually happens.

But he's been effective (I'd like to see comparative stats for those players, just so I'm not making an assumption). He's also playing major minutes and his defensive responsibility has probably come at the expense of his performance as a shooter.

Alas, if an awards race is close, it's likely to go to the player whose team has a better season.

The coaches and players of the Big 12 know. The post play is definitely weak this year for the Big 12 which worked out great for us considering we returned Ejim and Railey as our only bigs. We have some great additions in last years and this years classes to give us some Big 12 posts for the future.

If Melvin E. keeps up the steady pace he is showing with scoring, rebounds and defense, he may break into one of the three top teams.

Great question. Always tough to say because nobody knows who will declare for the draft etc. My guess is Thomas Robinson goes for sure, and good chance Perry Jones does. Quincy Miller and Le'Bryan Nash are 50/50. Myck Kabongo is not likely but possible. And Royce I would say is very unlikely at this point to declare.

Here is a very early look at 2012-2013 power rankings:

    1. Iowa State (Yep, very possible Cyclones deepest and most talented team in 12-13.)
    2. Baylor (Depends on who returns, but bringing in a couple more big-time prospects.)
    3. Texas (Lose Chapman and Wangmene, so posts a concern. Guards are filthy.)
    4. Kansas (Lose T-Rob, Taylor. Will be deep, but not sure where scoring comes from.)
    5. K-State (Lose Samuels, but everyone else back. Wildcats not going away.)
    6. Oklahoma State (Love their young guys--Brown/Nash/Williams, and bringing in stud in Marcus Smart. Need more depth, but Cowboys will be crazy athletic.)
    7. Oklahoma (Everybody back. Sooners have potential if they ever figure it out.)
    8. West Virginia (Return Kilicli, but lose Truck Bryant and Kevin Jones.)
    9. Texas Tech (Raiders have all sorts of young guys. They will be better, but have long way to go.)
    10. TCU (Lose 2 leading scorers off average team this season. Uphill battle for TCU to get up to speed in Big 12.)

Ha, honest, reasonable projection! If White returns, Lucious and Clyburn are as solid as advertised and everybody else improves at a reasonable rate, there is no reason to think anybody in the conference will have the talent and depth of Iowa State next year. Baylor/Texas/Kansas will all be right there, but I think the Cyclones have more experience and depth.

Keep in mind, the Big 12 will be deep next year, but unlikely to have a top 10 caliber team.
