    Keep your priorities in line

    Simms sidelined
    Skin infection ends prep career

    By Phil Monson

The dream of winning another gold medal is gone for the top-ranked and unbeaten wrestler.

But in the grand scheme of things - medals and winning titles are not very important right now.

Simms spent most of last week hospitalized due to a serious skin infection, which broke out less than two weeks ago. The serious nature of his infection required four surgeries to remove a cyst-like growth and drain fluid from the back, upper area of his right leg.

Instead of competing for the Wildcats in last Saturday's Class 2A Sectional Tournament in Algona, Simms, the son of Bryce and Shana Simms of Gilmore City, was cheering for his teammates from his hospital room at Clarion.

Are you trying to link wrestling to MRSA?

No, I'm not trying to link anything to anything. A returning state champ, ranked #1 and undefeated and a senior that doesn't get to compete in sectionals, thus ending his high school career.

That was probably one of the most important things in his life 2-3 weeks ago, now he's glad he has his leg. This could have been alot worse. Great kid and a hard worker!

    Ah ok!

I'd love to see him hit the mat again!

MRSA ruined Mark Schwabs wrestling career and almost took the life of Nate Moore 2 years ago
