    Bourne Series

Most of you have seen or heard or even read the Bourne Series. Ludlum wrote the first three books that are now movies, but there are two more books following the Bourne Ultimatum, called the Bourne Legacy and the Bourne Betrayal. I was just wondering if Doug Liman or anyone has put thought into making both of those motion pictures. I guess I loved the first 3 and after looking online realize or found that there are actually 2 more books to the series.

I dunno, but considering books are usually better than the movies, I am looking forward to reading the series.

    Re: Bourne Series

As a huge Ludlum fan, the last book (and MAYBE the last 2) were released after his death. As such, they used a ghostwriter to try and pull it together. The last book absolutely sucked.

The books far outclass the movies. Matt Damon is NOT Jason Bourne.....

I know the last book suck, but I know there is word out that The Bourne Legacy was partially written or almost completly written by Ludlum before his death, but wasn't published by him.

    Re: Bourne Series

I just finished the first book.... and I got the feeling that the 3 movies are all out of that first book, but there were so many differences in story line that it was hard to see how they even got the movie storyline out of the books to begin with.. I just started the second book this week, and I do have to say, these books are addictive.

    Re: Bourne Series

The plot of the books is totally divergent from the movies. I thought the screenwriters did a good job of taking the basic premise of the Bourne books and making the story a bit more modern. I'm glad the screenwriters took the approach of not trying to stay close to the book plots...it's almost as if there are 3 new Bourne stories now.

I thought the same thing about the movies and the first book. I watched the first movie and liked it until I read the series. The books are so much better than the movies I don't know if I will even see the Ultimatum.

I have yet to read the books, but I will tell you Ultimatum is worth seeing. There's hardly a time in the movie where it slows down for you to take a breath.

I probably will end up seeing it but the books are absolutely amazing. About anything Ludlum wrote was pretty good.

I agree.... as I read the books, I just think of them as something completely different than the movies. Bourne Identity was published in 1980, and so much has changed in the world since then. If the screenwriters copied the books entirely, no one would want to see them because of the archaeic technology. No cell phones, weird ways of handling banking..... The movies are so action packed, it's great. The books are so packed with other things you forget they're not like the movies because they, too, are great.

    [TeamAmerica]MATT DAMON![/TeamAmerica]

I think Ultimatum probably has more dumb things per second than any action movie ever made. Luckily, the laws of physics, basic continuity AND the rules of logic were suspended for the movie. It also holds the record for most ridiculous indirect references to "the Patriot Act" than any movie since 2001.

Other than that, it was Just Swell!

That is exactly what I thought. It felt like I have 6 Bourne stories in my head from three titles.

Great series of books to read.

I also like Ken Follett (kinda similar stuff), mainly his early stuff but all of it is a good read. Let me know if you are interested in recommendations on his line of books.
