great read, thanks for the post

My hate is not limited to just the Hawkeyes, I have plenty to go around for the Jayhawks and just Hawks in general.

Re: Another good article on Larry.

That game against Memphis was tremendous. I'm so glad it made it on national t.v. It was really good to see the Eustachy system firing on all cylinders.

It sounds like it was good for him to be let go, but I still think it is crazy that so many other programs have done so many worse things, and it isn't even a consideration to let them go.

Pinkel stayed and he broke the law and endangered lives (and the alphabet.)
Rich Rod stayed and he lied and cheated (he left because he was a loser, not because he was a rulebreaker)
Iowans apparently are untouchable as long as they aren't affiliated with the state anymore. Dana Holgorsen got promoted early to head coach at WV after getting tossed, dead drunk, out of a casino.

All Larry demonstrated was poor etiquette and lousy taste in beer. If he'd been coaching at Wisconsin, all they would have said was, "Next time, bring back a keg!"

Again, I'm not saying it should have gone any different: I'm just amazed at the contrast in standards. Coach of the Year Larry got sent to a "forgotten cave" for pictures at a party, and Coach of the Year John Calipari openly leaves two schools in probation on his way to Kentucky?

Incidentally, it seems clear that, Eustachy is in a far better place than some of those other guys can even dream about. I hope we meet him in the tournament.

Re: Another good article on Larry.

If any organization wants a perfect example of "how not to handle something", they need only review the way ISU handled the Larry Eustachy situation.
Its a play-by-play of what not to do from a PR perspective, and really, from basically any perspective.

How about Bob Huggins over the years...he got a DUI! Got nailed for breaking the law...LE never was even accused of committing a crime!

I respectfully disagree with you on this. Without knowing any of the behind the scenes stuff, ulitmately I believe ISU had no choice but to fire Larry. You mention "any organization" using this as an example of how not to handle something. What if this wasn't sports and it was Grumman competing with Boeing for a large aircraft contract? Grumman loses and their CEO is seen drunk that night at a Boeing party...he's fired. Only in sports would there even be a second thought about firing someone in this situation.

I like Larry, he is a great coach. I'm thrilled he is having success now. But, he disgraced our program and put us in a very bad light. Had he not been fired, I believe there is a very good chance he would still be that same person today that he was then. In the end, his firing was the best thing for ISU AND for Larry. It seems Larry doesn't have any hard feelings toward ISU-I seem to remember he came back for some event a couple of years ago. So we'll just chalk it up to a bad few days in the past and everybody is happy with where they are now.

From what I understand from some of those in the know is that LE was not fired for the party pictures, but he had been given an opportunity to come clean, fess up his issues, but he chose to lie to BVD and Prez Geoffrey. BVD is clearly not a well-liked figure, but I don't know how any ISU sports fan cannot recognize that Geoffrey was one of the best Presidents we have had. And if Geoffrey thought it was best for LE to leave, I trust his judgment on what went down.

Happy for LE that he got his life together and is getting back on top.

Re: Another good article on Larry.

We really have a weekly LE thread that turns into the very same debate. A new article, some news about what he is up to, and how is teams are doing is always refreshing. And debates are always welcome. But the same debate time and time again?

Can't we just enjoy LE news. CF archived threads are always available for those who want to go over the firing from ISU.

The LE threads should be in general college category also. He is no longer involved with the ISU MBB program.

Re: Another good article on Larry.

Yes ISU self inflicted the wounds created by Greg's reign of terror and that makes them all the more emberassing.

Totally stand up of Larry not to hold grudges against ISU. Sad to think people like Larry and Mac can't find roles at ISU given their respect and love for the school.

Why would he be holding grudges against ISU? He hosed over ISU, not vice versa...

I agree, but not sure if thats possible given the emotion on both sides. I'd like to just applaud the success he's having now both on and off the court.

It is still weird to see LE in anything but a black Turtleneck shirt.

How much would it cost to get LE back on the bench at ISU?

He was DEFINITELY a great "in-game" coach. Having him as Fred's new Lutz certainly couldn't hurt.

Re: Another good article on Larry.

Geoffrey wanted BVD gone too. Geoffrey had not been in the president job long when a decision had to be made. He fired LE at the time, as a show of support to his staff, but essentially went with a "delayed firing" of BVD to get rid of the other half of the problem.
