“One day we’ll be in here celebrating a Big 12 championship,” Rhoads said. “That I can promise you.”

"I hope to coach here until I retire," Hoiberg said.

Re: Nice opinion article in ISD

So because the athletes "tarnish" the university image we're going to "tarnish" their image. Good logic.

I walk passed athletes every day and could care less about what they wear. It sucks when an athlete gets arrested or in trouble but it happens everywhere. Why even bring up this topic??

To bad he lumped ALL athletes into one barrel. I agree with much of what he says, but the VAST majority of our athletes are outstanding individuals. I'll start with the sisters and move on from there.

Re: Nice opinion article in ISD

The author goes too far in certain areas (clothing) but the issue of arrests among college athletes (particularly FB and MBB) certainly is one that, while not unique to ISU, is a blemish on all of college athletics.

If you want to see the real deal go look at
    Fulmer Cup - SAS Wiki

Last year ISU ended up in a "proud" 5th place for the first time in history Iowa wasn't on the list. Guess their lawyers are getting better.

Re: Nice opinion article in ISD

[QUOTE]I would like to apologize if my point was not made completely clear.
I did not mean to target any race or sound racially insensitive.
The main topic I wanted to address was that our student athletes are held in high esteem; they are granted opportunities and adulation that many students, myself included, would love to have. They are also looked up to by young kids and are viewed as role models.
I have nothing against sweatpants, I was trying to use the clothing reference as a simple yet relatable analogy about some of the perks that student athletes receive.
I did not mean that all student-athletes or every member of a certain team will cause problems. Whether they are gymnasts, football players, wrestlers or runners, a majority of athletes do positive work. From breast cancer awareness to community involvement with SAAC events, student-athletes are giving back.
My goal was to simply address a topic that I felt should be discussed, since these men and women are such public and revered figures./QUOTE]

Nobody kept Darrin Cline from the "opportunities and adulation" he would love to have except Darrin Cline.

He should focus more on being the best Darrin Cline he can be, rather than worrying about what he would like others to be.

    I enjoyed Jake Knott's reply!

    Jake Knott @Jknott20
So I heard all athletes are supposed to have a closet full of ISU gear? When do I get mine? #ohwait

    Jake Knott @Jknott20
Shoot maybe I'll get a suit and tie on Fri. in between my five classes, 6am run, treatment, 2:30pm lift and film. By then it'll be 6pm.. N/m

    Jake Knott @Jknott20
I'm lucky enough to eat breakfast and lunch with that schedule. Let alone "dress up".

And then this from Deon Broomfield

    Deon Broomfield @iBroomy
You know you did something wrong when @Jknott20 is mad lmao

Re: Nice opinion article in ISD

The thing is that there aren't message boards devoted to the average students. The hate that this guy is getting today is just a small part of what it is like to be an athlete on a daily basis. It is interesting that he is getting a small taste of what they always get.

There are legitimate discussions to be had regarding the behavior of athletes. But this guy (in his poorly written article, I might add), loses all crediability once he brings in the sweat pants arguement.
