    Star or Steady?

With the talk of Craig Brackins possibly being the next big thing, (time will tell) I got to thinking...

Would you rather have a Kevin Durant/Greg Oden type player that only stays at ISU for one season, but takes us to the Elite 8 or Final Four, or a player that averages 15-18 PPG but stays all four years and takes us to the Big Dance every year??

For now I would take the 15-18 guy that takes us there every year. After we're an established NCAA team then I'd rather have the stud that gets us to the point where we are having a chance to cut down the nets for one year.

I will take either, because for a long time we have had neither!

I'd love to have a stud, but they generally won't come to your school unless you're getting to the tourney each year, which requires a supporting cast of Wesley Johnson caliber players.

I'd take the Elite 8 or Final 4 every time. That's a special season, don't you guys remember how awesome that was? It was a totally unreal ride.

Yeah it was, but I think it'd be better to build a foundation with consistent tourney appearances so you could have a better shot at getting more than one of those guys. Personal preference though...if I knew we wouldn't ever go farther than the first weekend otherwise, I'd take the guy that gets us to the Elite 8/Final 4 for a year and jumps to the NBA for sure. I still get chills thinking about getting the "Izzo sucks" chant going at the Palace, and having the MSU boosters sitting behind us and yelling at us to sit down during the ISU/UCLA game. Some of the best times of my life

I'd throw 4 years of NCAA births to have one year of final four baby!

I see what you're saying Tiger, but I think you'd easily be able to build a foundation if you got your team to the FF. That carries some weight in the recruiting world.

True. If this happens right now, it would be a great thing for future recruiting. In the long run however, I would prefer a Wesley Johnson type guy who is really good but stays at least three years.

We're not talking about Brackins specifically in this thread. I think it goes without saying that he needs to prove himself on the court before any comparisons to greatness happen. He is a highly rated recruit, rated higher than Fizer was, so this fuels speculation on him.

    Re: Star or Steady?

The Stud gets us much moe Natl. attn. Because ISU is still a nobody in natl. media, I would like more big studs...Fizer and JT kept everyone who follows bball hearing the name Iowa State. Even in the draft. Need more like 'em.

I disagree 100%. I'd rather be in the tourney and win a 1st round game every year than go the final 4 and miss the tourney the other times. To each his own, I guess.

    Re: Star or Steady?

I think rivals is the only service that has Brackins rated higher than Fizer...Fizer was also a McDonald's All-American so it's tough to say Brackins is rated higher...but regardless, here's to hoping Brackins developes into a special player for us. As far as the topic at hand goes-
IMO, if I could only choose one...I would choose the final four year, that year with Jamaal and Marcus where we lost to Michigan State was unlike any other year we've made the dance IMO...granted I was so down after the MSU game that I could hardly stomach watching the final four.
