Re: Proof that Recruiting Rankings Mean Nothing

Nothing? Absolutely nothing? I hate this argument. Of course there's going to be busts and of course there are going to be kids that beat the odds, but great athletes often times make good football players.

Just read this today. Reranking the 2009 class. Their top 7 classes, they initially had ranked in the top 12. I'd say that's a pretty good success rate of their initial rankings.

Re: Proof that Recruiting Rankings Mean Nothing

This proves nothing. It's a small sample of guys who went bust in, or never saw, the NFL. It doesn't mean that they didn't do well in college, and it certainly doesn't mean that all highly-touted recruits don't do well in college. For every bust, there are probably just as many highly-rated players that did well.

The ranking of recruiting classes is not a perfect indicator of a team's success, but it's likely as good or better a predictor as anything else imaginable.

My point also is that we all want 4* and 5* guys but of all the 4* talent we've had, I can't think of one that had a great or even good career (Flynn was a 4* on one site, 3* on another, but he would be the closest one)

Re: Proof that Recruiting Rankings Mean Nothing

Recruiting rankings are just odds. The higher ranked, the higher chance that player probably has of being an asset. However, as anyone who's played cards know, great odds doesnt always mean a winning hand, but if you get enough hands with great odds (a lot of those high-ranked players) chances are at the end of the night you'll be doing pretty good.

Yeah recruiting rankings mean nothing. The top teams never have the best classes Also, most of those guys had incredible college careers.

Re: Proof that Recruiting Rankings Mean Nothing

Haha, yeah look at the times with the most consistent, sustained success. I mean Texas, USC, OSU, Oklahoma, Florida......yeah, those teams aren't working. They mean something. Finding a few guys who had average careers doesn't prove anything.

    I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU

    Or so I have read.

If I were CPR, I would talk to 5* players ONLY.

Exactly--I can't even remember the last time we landed a 4-star recruit.

How much do you think U$C had to pay Barkley to stay another year?? I bet his parents got at least a sick house out of the deal..
