Football - What do we need to do better to improve the most

After analyzing areas where we perform poorly, I feel items that need improvement are: Kickoffs Returns, Kickoffs by Shaggy, Kickoff Return, Defensive Coverage, Snaps of all types, Punt returns, Run Game Averages, Passing Game per play averages, Defensive Stoppages within 3 plays, and Third down conversion efficiency. I did not include turnovers because that is a no brainer. Several of the items above lead to the turnovers we are making. This is multiple selection and shown as public for viewing pleasure. So, what needs most improvement (may choose more than one item) on our team in the last few games?

Our punt returns are 3.4 yards per effort - rather mundane. Might as well try to block a kick and call a fair catch.

Re: Football - What do we need to do better to improve the most

    recruit!recruit!recruit!
    1. find a qb that can run and pass the ball with good vision, has a gpa of 3.5 or above, and can take us to the promiesd land where can kick the featherbutts in iowa city by 45 points every year.
    2. get 2 big running backs that are 230,run 4 .35 40's, and can bust 95 yard touchdown runs and can run with good balance and vision.
3.recruit 4 wide receivers that run the 40 in 4.35 or less, are at least 6-5 in height, have good soft hands, and can take it to the bank like crabtree at texas tech.
have someone in the biochemistry dept or genetics dept or at pioneer hybrids develop michael crabtree clones for our wideouts.
4.recruit a good set of offensive linemen that are 6-6 or taller, are at least 300 lbs.,are quick and light on their feet, run a 4.8 40(do not recruit any offensive lineman that cannot run a 4.8 forty.require each lineman has a kick-arse attitude.
    5 tight end-250 lbs-runs a 4.5 40,has soft hands, and is a powerful blocker.
    defensive standards:
    1. defensive tackles and ends-minimum 250 lbs-6-3 and run 4.6-4.8 40's-have the abilityto push their counterpart on the offensive line straight backwards.
all of them to have training and working on their martial arts at the black belt level.
    2. linebackers-all at least 6-3, 225 -240-and be able to run the 40 in 4.5.they should be trained in karate, too, and be at the black belt level.
    3.safeties and cornerbacks-safties must be at 6-2 or bigger,205 -210, 4.4 in the forty.corner backs-6-0,nothing shorter-190-205 and again 4.4 in the 40
    4. special teams-do something like a and m have done-start a 12th man program and get some gutty jocks on campus to be in the ISU 12TH MAN PROGRAM!!! RECRUIT A KICKER FROM THE STUDENT BODY TO HANDLE KICK-OFF AND PUNTING CHORES.the aggies have really got a lot of mileage from the 12th man program. it has helped fill their stadium with a sellout crowd and the students really buy into it.

Win the turnover battle, followed closely by increasing YPC. It's a lot easier to coach a defensive game plan when the offense is grinding out long, time-consuming drives on the ground, without giving the ball away.

Re: Football - What do we need to do better to improve the most

    Tie for:

Opponent's starting field position (variety of kick/punt/coverage issues).
Finishing drives in the endzone (variety of offensive stuff including turnovers).

We've been good/OK (until TT) on defense in general but short fields kill us.

We've also been getting yards on offense, but not scores.

May my postings be polite and not misunderstood. (And hopefully funny on occasion.)

a.j.etc.- did you watch the florida-lsu game. was one of the best footgames this year.tebow at florida was a very impressive qb. the game announcer said all of florida's receivers ran 40 times between 4,2 to 4.35. we should be able to recruit wide receivers and all purpose backs with similar 40 requirements.look at what mike leach has done at texas tech the past few years.leach never played football. he grew up as a trial lawyer.
