the big 12 south teams should be

Embarrased due to the poor attendence. Every away game we play we should have a chance because nobody shows up. Its horrible. Why do players keep going to play for them. Texas, ou, tech I am looking at you

Makes me question why the Big 12 is one of the toughest places to play on the road!

Football is pretty much life in the south. They have a stronger basketball following when they're doing good, as do most schools. but they don't have the fans that stick it out through thick and thin like some of the north teams.

I've said it before: I don't understand how an athletic department can sell 80k to 100k football tickets but can't sell 15k basketball tickets unless the team is Final 4 caliber and playing a top 20 opponent.

I don't understand why these top 50 recruits keep commiting to play in front of no fans when they could come play at a school that appreciates it

Facilities, not fans are more important then we thought?

Football is king in the South. Our high school has spring football practice and a spring game. Attendance at bb games is terrible despite incredible talent down here.

Could be economics. If you can only afford one or the other then football usually wins out.

I get that, but if ISU can average 40k football and 10k basketball (both on the low end), how does it not work out that if south teams sell 80k football to not get AT LEAST 15k basketball?

    The math isn't even linear...

Re: the big 12 south teams should be

I have to think weather is also part of it. Southerners can keep doing outside activites throughout most of the winter, and in fact that might be preferable over the heat and humidity of summer to a lot of southerners. For a lot of northerners (like me), basketball gets me thru the long winter, especially with a good team.

Hey, Hey, Hey. We averaged 50K and then some this year. I HAVE to correct that part.

I know how good our average was. That is what I am saying, that even by knocking it down that much, it shows how poorly the other athletic departments do overall, even though football is the driving factor by a longshot.

While I agree with your assessment, there is no longer a 'Big XII South' with only 10 teams.

I would think Fred could really use this as a barganing tool when recruiting. I would think it would be a difference make with a lot of recruites. Maybe not?
