    Pete Taylor

It has now been almost 9 years since Pete passed. Today's Freshmen would have been in 4th grade. Man I miss his voice. How he would have loved CPR and CFH!

I miss him too, for those of us that grew up listening to the Clones on the radio...very few games were on TV before Hilton Magic... he made you feel like you were sitting courtside. Hearing the news of his passing was like a punch to the gut, that still doesn't feel like it has gone away.

Agreed, he would of loved our current coaches...they have the same Cyclone passion that Pete had for the Clones. (RIP)

I grew up in western IA and loved to listen to the football games on the radio. The 80's were a tough time to be a Cyclone, but listening to Pete made it enjoyable.

Agree. I loved listening to him while harvesting during that time.

    Re: Pete Taylor

I love Pete Taylor and still mourn his passing on, the first time I ever listened to Pete do football was the fall of 1968 and I still remember his partner at the time Dan Grimm saying "the offensive line has done nothing so far in this game".

That was vintage Dan Grimm who played at DM Roosevelt, Univ of Colorado and with the Green Bay Packers and Wash Redskins as I remember.

Pete Taylor was the geatest and will always be remembered fondly...

    Re: Pete Taylor

First time I heard PT I was helping my brother in law build fence on his farm. It was in the late 70s when ISU beat Nebby in Lincoln - my brother in law was going crazy and I was not into college football at the time so I was like that's nice - I wish I would have known at the time how incredible that was and how important it would be to me in the future.

    Re: Pete Taylor

I think everyone who lived through Pete's era feels like he was family, even if you never met him. I think he was one of the greatest Cyclones in history. May he rest in peace.

That said, I don't think anyone could have done a better job of taking Pete's place behind the microphone than John Walters has.

And of course there is the ever-humble sidekick, Eric Heft, who has served with them both. Nobody does it better.

Thank you for lending us your voices and descriptions of Cyclone athletics.

I agree. There's something that is more intimate about listening to a game on the radio, something many of us were relegated to in that era, as not a lot of games were on tv. Kind of like me and Pete, watching the game together, and both of us got excited, upset and sad at the same time. He was Iowa State athletics for me growing up.

Hard to believe he was an Iowa grad.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

He did great with football. Remember he did BB also and he did not hold back there either.

    Re: Pete Taylor

I loved Pete too. There were so few of our games on TV growing up that a lot of us heard about our Clones through him.

I will say I really like Walters. He's a little more reserved and professional than Pete (not a good or bad thing) but I think he does a great job and you can tell he legit cares about Rhoads and Hoiberg. He's done a great job stepping in for Pete and I'm thanking he is here.

One thing about Pete Taylor, if you turned him on in the middle of the game, you didn't need a score to know how ISU was doing.

Thankfully. Because one thing that bugged me about Pete was he would go FOREVER between score updates.

    Woody...TOUCHDOWN! THEY DID IT!
