    Do You Realize?

At 17-6 we now have more wins than we've had in over six seasons (2005 - 19-12 overall). Fred Hoiberg has done in two seasons what McDermott couldn't do in four. Finish the season with a winning record. No matter what happens from here on out, we'll still end up with a winning record.

Still 8 games to play. Go Cyclones!

We are going to have our first 20 win team in what seems like forever.

This team is really starting to gel.

Starting with baby steps, it's the first guaranteed winning season since 2005-06.

It looks like it'll extend far beyond that.

    Re: Do You Realize?

I looked up some conference stats on cyclones.com a few minutes ago:

Fred is now 10-16 in conference, with 8 games to go this season (3-13 last year & 7-3 so far this year). Even if he doesn't win another game this year, he's already beaten McDermott's best year (06-07 @ 6-10) and Morgan's worst year (05-06 @ 6-10). With three wins down the stretch, he will exceed Morgan's best effort (04-05 @ 9-7) and I don't think it's too optimistic to think that we can't find 3 more wins in our remaining 8 games.

If the team wins out? He goes 18-16 in a two year stretch, which ties McDermott's overall wins from 4 years in charge. In GMac's defense, that would be done with two additional games played because of this season's schedule adjustments, but you get my point.

Average records per year for the previous two staffs here at ISU were 4.5-11.5 for McDermott (18-46 over 4 years) and approximately 7-9 for Morgan (22-26 over 3 years).

At the very least, I think it's fair to say that the whole "let's hire a former star player with NO coaching experience" experiment should be judged as a success.

Why does McDermott even need to be mentioned? Let it go man, it didn't work for him. He's happy now, we're happy now.
    GO CYCLONES!!!!!!

    What?
Our 3rd to last coach won back to back Big 12 championships and took us to the Elite 8.
Our 2nd to last coach took us to the NIT final four and 2nd round of the tourney.
    Our last coach sucked.

    Re: Do You Realize?

I don't remember the last win. But everytime I see a game at OU, I think of Billy Tubbs getting on the PA microphone and saying "please don't throw stuff on the floor...no matter how bad the officiating gets."

The last three coaches were Greg McDermott, Wayne Morgan, and Larry Eustachy.

Greg McDermott, yes I agree with you. We sucked under Greg McDermott.

But we sucked under Wayne Morgan? Really? 3 winning seasons under Morgan in 3 total seasons, NIT semifinals, and 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament sucks? We also turned down an NIT bid in his last season because the coaching staff felt that we blew too many close games.

We sucked under Larry Eustachy? Two Big 12 Championships, Elite 8, NCAA another year, NIT 2nd Round, a .500 year. 4 of his 5 seasons were .500 or better (only one season at .500). Only one season we sucked under Eustachy.

    Re: Do You Realize?

Why does ISU always have these stupid stats?
Iowa State hasn't won a basketball game in Oklahoma since the movie Titantic was produced. Really.....
At least with Football and basketball we are erasing a lot of streaks here lately.

    I hear ya..

In august of 09 there was a thread on here: When will the ISU football team win its next road game? (Hadn't won a road game in 3 years)

One of the options was "ISU will never win another road game" ... I thought it was funny but its sad to think about. glad freddy and CPR have righted the ships

Just said on the post-game show, that the last win in Norman was Jeff Grayer's senior year. Walters said the last win in the state of Oklahoma was the year after Fred graduated (don't remember if we won a tournament game there or not).

Regardless this is our first-ever regular season Big 12 win in Oklahoma!
