    RB depth

About a month ago, this was easily our deepest position on the team with...

    Shontrelle
    James White
    Jeff Woody
    Duran Hollis
    Robert Standard
    DeVondrick Nealy
    Barkley Hill

But now... if SJ can't make it back for some reason, we could be looking at....

    James White
    Jeff Woody
    Robert Standard
    DeVondrick Nealy

Going from 7 deep to potentially 4 deep kinda scares me a little bit now. The good thing is that none of these 4 will be a senior next year. White and Woody will be juniors, and Standard and Nealy will be RS freshmen.

I guess if all these guys stay healthy, and if Shontrelle can make it back, we'll still be in good shape. But if SJ can't come back, and if one of the remaining 4 gets dinged up, all of the sudden a team strength could become pretty darn thin in a hurry.

Agree. If we are down to 4 and have an injury, we start to look pretty thin.

What changed in the last month with Shontrelle that made you have him on the list and than take him off? Nothing. Just Clonedude being negative...... Again

    Re: RB depth

Shontrelle should be fine, but even still, we went most of the season with Woody and White getting a lot of touches and being roughed up pretty bad. They can handle the load. Duck had a few touches and was really effective with them, but we have Standard who should be able to come in and help this year. We should (nothing is guaranteed) be fine.

Not only that, but if it came down to where we only had those 4 next year, only one of them is really an experienced "true" RB in James White, since Woody is more of a battering ram fullback type.

Yes, Standard and Nealy have looked very promising from most reports, but they still have never played a down for ISU yet, and until they do, they are very unknown quantities at this point.

At least Barkley Hill today admitted the reason he switched to Iowa, the better chance at playing time since their top 2 RBs quit. Had nothing to do with him liking Iowa any better than ISU.

    Re: RB depth

We'll be fine. All 5 of our top 5 rushers are available (2 QB's and 3 RB's). Combine QB stats and hope we have 1 starter this year. Add in Standard and Nealy.

Hollis only had 213 yards and 71 of those came on 1 play.

SJ already said he will be playing next season, don't get the point of this thread.

Until I heard Rhoads today, I felt pretty good about Shontrelle making it back next year by most of the rumors going around. After today, I'm not as sure about that. Rhoads basically said he's doing really well, but has a long ways to go yet.

I don't think RB depth will necessarily be an issue, even if we only have 4 next year, as long as they all stay healthy. It's just that the RB position has taken quite a hit. We lose Barkley Hill and then Duran Hollis all within about a week, and Shontrelle is very much still a question mark.

So it's not a slam dunk anymore that this is the deepest position on the team. We definately will need to get a couple more next year.

Cripes. Only you and I mean ONLY you could take our strongest position group (according to CPR) and make it look bad. What about what Rhoads said makes you feel worse? What did you want him to say? "Yes, folks, he just had neck surgery a few months ago, but we know without a doubt that he will be in the thick of the Heisman race next year." He said he was doing excellent in terms of rehab. That's all he knows and he has never said anything more than that. He didn't backtrack on anything and he didn't say there were any negatives. You are making something up to freak out about because signing day went as planned and the basketball team is fine. I get it, it's been a long time since the sky was falling, but there is no need to make stuff up to get bent out of shape about.
