    UNI Preview/Predictions and Results

#14 Iowa State visits UNI on Friday. The meet will be held in the West Gym and there will also be coverage on Mediacom. I am not sure if it'll be live or tape delayed.

    Code:
Weight Rank ISU Wrestler Record Rank UNI Wrestler Record
    125 #12 Ryak Finch 11-6 vs. Cruse Aarhus 18-10
    133 RJ Hallman 6-13 vs. #11 Joe Colon 17-2
            or Shayden Terukina 4-6
    141 #14 Luke Goettl 9-9 vs. Levi Wolfensperger 7-3
149 Joey Cozart 5-9 vs. Seth Noble 13-8
                                                   or Clay Welter 14-15
    157 Mike Moreno 3-9 vs. #20 David Bonin 22-6
    165 #4 Andrew Sorenson 22-1 vs. Riley Banach 18-12
174 Mikey England 15-10 vs. Onni Prestidge 4-18
    184 #16 Boaz Beard 7-3 vs. #6 Ryan Loder 24-2
197 Trevor Voelker 2-2 vs. Taylor Kettman 13-11
             or Jerome Ward 0-0
HWT #12 Matt Gibson 20-7 vs. Blayne Beale 21-8
    Match by match thoughts:
125: Finch pinned Aarhus in the first period earlier in the season. I am not sure if we can count on another pin, but I think that Finch wins this one by a major or better.

133: I don't see Shayden or RJ getting a win here. Best case is we give up a major rather than a tech fall.

141: I think Goettl gets back on track and gets a major or better here.

149: This is a true toss-up. Cozart looked better than I expected against Cornell but the sample size is too small to know whether he's progressed much since the start of the season.

157: Bonin pinned a different Mike Moreno earlier in the season but I think our Mike Moreno will do a lot better. Bonin has the edge, but if Mike wrestles like he did against Dake I see no reason he can't get the upset.

165: Sorenson beat Banach 18-1 in November. I see no reason for Sorenson not to get a Tech Fall or Pin here.

174: Predstige is not very good. England needs to dominate not only the first period but keep it up throughout the match. I think Mikey has a very good chance at a pin here.

184: Loder is by far the best wrestler on the UNI squad. Beard is good but hasn't shown himself to be AA caliber yet. In this match I am looking for Beard to create offense and keep it to a decision

197: I think we see Ward give it the old college try here. They must feel that a medical red shirt is unlikely. Kettman lost to Shafer 2-10 at Midlands. If it is Voelker I think it is a toss up just due to not knowing much about Voelker yet. If it is Ward I think he either wins by decision or defaults out.

HWT: Gibson is wrestling like a legit All American prospect right now. I think he wins this one. Looking at past results, Beale is good at keeping his losses to decisions, so I'd like to see Gibson push for a major.

For my prediction this time I'm splitting it up into a best case/pessemistic/worst case. For the pessemistic case I gave UNI the edge at 149, 157 and 197, which assumes that Ward doesn't wrestle and both Cozart/Voelker aren't able to get wins. For the worst case scenario I not only give UNI those three matches but also assume that they limit our bonus points and maximize their own.

    Best Case Prediction:
ISU wins 8 matches (losing 133 and 184) and dominates the dual 32-7
Pessemistic Prediction: Both teams win 5 matches, ISU wins it 19-17 on bonus points
Worst Case Prediction: Both teams win 5 matches, UNI wins it 16-20 on bonus
    points.

There will be the usual live blog that I will link to once it becomes available. You can also follow the results on Twitter by following "CycloneWR".

    Re: UNI Preview/Predictions and Results

I'd like to think that we'll win at least one of 149, 157, and 197. If Ward is going to make a run at coming back this year he really needs to start on Friday so that he has at least a handful of matches under his belt before Big 12s. If a medical redshirt is out of the option and he isn't at risk of permanently re-injuring his back then there is nothing to lose by giving him a shot.

    Re: UNI Preview/Predictions and Results

This would be a great match for Ward to come back for. It's only 1 match vs National duals could be multiple. And with it being Kettman, it's a winnable match to get your mat skills back.

Very good write up, Judoka! We really need good performances from Finch, Goettl, and Moreno and if Cozart opens up a little, we could put this away early. If we lose 2 of these, we will watching 197 and heavyweight with some excitement.

I would suggest that you may want to get to the wrestling meet early
Friday evening. It is going to be packed. I have heard that anywhere
from 65-100 people will be at the meet from Clear Lake to support Joe
Colon (Joe's home town) and cheer the Panthers on to victory.

I am being told at intermission that an important announcement is
going to be made which will be really great news for the UNI wrestling
program. That is all I am at liberty to say right now.

Thought they said it only holds 1500 people!

Wasn't that the other Mike Moreno from ICCC or NIACC?

    Re: UNI Preview/Predictions and Results

    You are correct ca4cy

    From Chip on Cyclone Report

There are, oddly enough, two Mike Morenos at 157.
Iowa State has one. The other goes to Ellsworth. The ISU Moreno didn't compete today.

(Referring to the Harold Nichols open)

I got my info from UNI website.

Oddly enough, in their results against ranked opponents, they left out Sorenson's TF over Banach and Finch's pinned of Aarhus.

buf, if I'm not mistaken you'll be coming from that general direction. I don't know how early I'll be able to get there, so I'm gonna need you to find a way to slow down the Clear Lake contigent, ok?

My kids will be ****** if we drive down there and they can't watch Andrew and the boys. Thanks for the heads up.

I'll be driving right through Clear Lake. I'll put a banana in the tailpipe of the bus. I hear that works!

None that I could find. It looks like the only times we've seen common opponents is Midlands and Harold Nichols, so I just noted those in the match writeups. I must have missed the Welter/Cozart match.

The Mike Moreno that Bonin pinned at Harold Nichols was a different Mike Moreno, who wrestles for a community college here in Iowa.

Looks like you can buy tickets online if you are worried about a sellout. I've never been to a meet at UNI so no idea if that is a concern on senior night plus an in state opponent. http://ev12.evenue.net/cgi-bin/ncomm...upCode=WR&cgc=

My gf and I originally planned nm on going but appears not to be in the plans. Unexpected gall bladder surgery taking place tomorrow, so I get to sit the hospital instead.

I bought tickets tonight, just in case. Didn't want to get to UNI and have it be a sellout!

I tried to order tickets online and never got any type of confirmation or email, so I don't know if it went through or not.
