    We have to fix our help defense

    We still have guys standing around and giving up uncontested shots...especially when someone gets beat on penetration. I bet we gave up at least ten buckets tonight from this. These guys play their ***** off but this has to improve.

    Re: We have to fix our help defense

    We were clutch down the stretch, but I agree. We seemed to do a great job the first 20-25 sec of the shot clock and then the defense broke down and they walked up to the basket for a lay up

    Agree. Saw Scottie stand on opposite block and just watch a layup happen. In the end Ejim had perfect help d to help get the 5th foul on their guard.

    SC needs to wave his hands more than he did in the first half.

    I'm not going to pretend it wasn't frustrating to watch, but this is the only conference game I've seen us sandbag it to this extent on defense, and I think/hope it can be attributed to exhaustion from the KU game. They were just plain worn out.

    Royce was the one at fault for 90 percent of the help defense mistakes. No excuse for him either as he usually guards the other teams worst shooter and he can just clog the lane

    That could be taken as nitpicking like finding something to complain about after finding a way to win. But there's always room for improvement, and what's been nice about the progress of this team is, they've fixed things along the way, so some glaring concerns earlier in the season are nearly an afterthought now ... yet the team is winning and there's still ways to get even better.

    I wish we had kept track of the things we thought were holding them back from the start of the season.

    Here are a few I remember don't hear a lot of talk about these lately, except in isolated cases:

    * No true point guard
    * Many players not focused/disinterested
    * Don't play a complete game
    * Really miss Lutz on the bench
    * Lazy on defense
    * Inconsistent (or bad) on the boards
    * Forced shots
    * Will get eaten alive inside vs. Big 12 teams
    * Can't finish a game
    * Specific player has Weakness X and it's dragging us down (this one still exists, but it's becoming less noticeable)

    I get this, but at the same time, I wonder how much of it is attributed to Royce not wanting to give up a foul and get in foul trouble. He's an intelligent basketball player, and I wonder if it's him trying to protect himself because we need him on the count.
