    Halftime Interview with Pollard

For those that missed it, he threw out a couple interesting stats:

    - There are more Iowans attending ISU than any other in-state institution (I think this may be old news but he mentioned it).

    - ISU is the only athletic department to beat a top 5 team in both football and basketball this year.

    - This is the first year that there are more ISU alumni living in the state of Iowa than alumni from any other institution.

There were a couple other things he talked about, but these were what stood out to me. I thought that the last point was pretty important, in that it shows we can become the dominant program in the state IF we continue to support ALL of our programs with attendance, donations and merchandise purchases. When combined with the first point about more Iowans going to school here, it means that the balance will continue to shift in our favor SO LONG AS WE WANT IT TO. "We really are becoming a Cyclone State."

    Re: Halftime Interview with Pollard

I don't think there was anything about throwbacks, but I was on the elliptical for halftime and the first 10 minutes of the second half so I might have missed it.

He's a little hung up on the hawks IMO. We know what we are and are becoming. ISU has a lot of advantages that they seem to finally be taking advantage of. Big 12>any instate rivalry. ISU will soon be the bigger university in multiple ways and Iowa did a fantastic job of keeping ISU at arms length in this state for a long time in the Iowa media but ISU realizes national media>local media

    Re: Halftime Interview with Pollard

I like Pollard's aggressiveness on gaining respect in-state and keeping the momentum going. Keep putting stats out there like that and somebody may eventually go, "Hmmm. Maybe Iowa doesn't deserve 75% of the attention."

National Media>Local Hawk Hacks - yes agree. When ISU is the Top Story on ESPN on a semi regular basis by virtue of BIG WINS and all the DMR can do is put on its top page how Iowa was #1 once in 1986 or 1987, then ya I think the National Media ultimately wins. I don't think he is too hung up on Iowa though, I think he recognizes an opportunity and with more Graduates in State and More Enrollment, Success on the court/field will be a huge opportunity to gain ground in fandom in state. I had no idea Iowa State has more in state alumni, now we just to find a way to appeal to more of the High School Grad and GED crowd

    Re: Halftime Interview with Pollard

You have to remember that less and less people get their info from the DMR or any local paper. National media is the big one now.

ISU has more undergrads than Iowa. Iowa has a few more total students than ISU because they have a huge advantage in grad students. Your undergrads tend to stay more local than grad students.

    Re: Halftime Interview with Pollard

ISU has enrolled more Iowa high school seniors than any other university every single year that this statistic has been kept. ISU has more undergraduates and more full-time students than Iowa. The total enrollment will be well over 30,000 next fall. ISU is the flagship university of Iowa!
