    NIT v. NCAA

Might this be a year when even going to the NIT could be a positive for our program? For instance, if we went to the NIT and did well, even though there is not good national media coverage, we would get some good attention in New York that could help recruiting there.

Of course, I want us to win every game and go as far as we can in the NCAA tournament, but I thought it might be an interesting thing to consider.

At this point not making the tournament would be very disappointing.

Any post season play will be a step forward for the program but I will be very disappointed if we do not make the dance.

Nope. NCAA First Round exit is better than winning the NIT.

    Next question.

    Re: NIT v. NCAA

Any NCAA is > NIT. That said, if we manage to lose enough to not make the NCAA, NIT would be better than sitting at home, and would break our bcs-longest streak of no postseason play.

    Re: NIT v. NCAA

I think we are already a lock for an NIT invite at this point, which means we've obviously had substantial improvement over the previous 5 years. That said, I'm with everyone else; would rather get bounced in the first round of the NCAA's then win the NIT.

Winning the NIT < Losing in the 1st or 2nd round of the NCAA? Really?

Is there a banner hanging in Hilton for our 2004 NIT Final Four? Nope. But there's one (date at least) for every NCAA qualifying year. That should tell you what the AD thinks about the NIT.

    Uhhhh correct.

The fact that you put 2nd round in there too is outrageous. Getting a W in the NCAA tourney is so much better than winning the NIT.

Yes, no question. NIT is pointless to brag or even feel good about.

Good point! I hadn't even thought about that.

It'd be disappointing not to make the dance at this point. We're not even on the bubble if we can pull out some more wins before the end of the year.

    Re: NIT v. NCAA

Teams that have won the NIT probably are better than some of those invited to the tournament, but in terms of prestige\exposure nobody outside of the schools playing really cares about the NIT.
