    Congratulations to Nikki!

I was hoping Chelsea would have received the player of the week. Her statistics were similar to Griner except we went 1-1.

Chelsea avg 22.5 pts 9 rebounds and shot 19-29 for 65%

Yeah, Pop is overlooked way too much, but if she continues as is, she is a lock for First Team Big 12. If it wasn't for Griner, she might be considered for Big POY.

Honestly, we have the talent on this team, and if it continues to gel, I feel pretty good about how we finish the year barring injuries. I think we are at the stage where BF has settled on his main 7 player rotation, and the kids are getting used to roles now. We usually see this work out before conference, but I think it took a little longer this year.

I was honestly surprised at Moody's selection considering the number of turnovers she had last week. Congrats to her anyway...

I agree...Pop lacks recognition. She is the blue collar worker in the conference while Griner is the fair haired favorite (no jokes there please).

Re: Griner Moody Players of the Week

Yeah, I really wish she could get some of those under control, however, her stats are not far off from other "elite" frosh point guards. For example, last year Sims at Baylor and Simmons at TN led their teams in TOs, about 2.7-3.0 per game. Moody is at about 3.5 per game. Each had an assist to TO ration of about 1. Moody's is about 1.3. Moody is almost averaging about 10 ppg, while Sims and Simmons were both around 13 ppg of fast paced high-scoring teams. They also had huge post players and other quick guards to bail them out.

    Pretty elite company.

The 8 at A&M was hard to swallow though....however, Moody's penetration and 3s were a main reason they were in that game. I think the ball should have been in Loz's hands at the end of the game. That was maybe just a little too much pressure for a frosh if you ask me. Especially making her stand there and wait and think about it.

I know I come to her defense a lot, but think we have to swallow the bad here. We have a PG that can get to the rim. It is hard to learn how and when to do that in D1. And sometimes with quick young PGs ala Andrea Riley (who averaged over 3 TOs a game and an A/T ratio of 1.5), Simmons, Sims, a few TOs are a part of their game.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. If you look at the stats from that particular game, Nikki had 3 assists and 8 turnovers, while Lauren had 8 assists and 3 turnovers. Nikki has had some very nice games, but this wasn't one of them in terms of handling the ball. Lauren seemed to be much more able to keep the ball from getting snatched at that point.

All people who make sweepingly generalized, stupid, uninformed comments are idiots.

    (maybe)

She had some freshman mistakes in the game prior to the last possession. Poppens got the foul but the player she ended up on was free because Moody got picked big time in the front court. I would like to see Moodys scoring stats if you had not missed all of those layups. Great job getting in sometimes but she might not have the strength/conditioning to finish all of them (yet). Do think she has the makings of a great guard.

Lauren has been really good the last few games. Looks to be more aggressive and looking to score, probably something she was not looked to for in JC or last year.

Playing the two guard has been a benefit to Lauren, she and Nikki play well together. We have expected Nikki to do a lot as a freshman, and I think she's done a pretty good job.

The big plus for Moody having the ball at the end of the game is her ability to get to the rim. It didn't work out, but I didn't mind the call. It could have worked if the play started 4 seconds earlier...

Re: Griner Moody Players of the Week

Our PG/2G play (Moody/Mansfield/Cole) has really looked good recently, and that's probably the single biggest reason the team is playing so well right now.
