    Texas reloading... top-ranked recruiting class

I think I just heard that Mack Brown has only signed one JUCO since he's been at Texas. That's incredible. He has two more coming in with this year's class. Sounds like they have some real studs signing this week.

Yeah... just surprised me a bit with their recent struggles and Mack Brown's rear end on the hot seat. I didn't expect them to reel in the number one class. But as you say, they are Texas.

Didn't he just sign a 10 year extension or something like that?

Re: Texas reloading... top-ranked recruiting class

Not arguing that they have a great class but lets be realistic, they are almost always listed in the top 5.

Since 2009 they have been 7th, 3rd, 3rd and 1st in 2012. Now in 2008 they were 16th but the avg stars was 3.7 or 6th.

They will continue to get top classes because they are in a hotbed and everyone grows up wanting to play for them.

The reality is until they translate recruiting back into winning who cares?

This is no disrespect to you Huddle just get sick of hearing how great Texas is

“It’s beyond pride. It’s a restored trust. There’s a confidence again, a passion that teeters on swagger. More than anything, (Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads) has restored the Iowa State “it” factor, the steadfast belief that it is great to be a Cyclone...the man’s enthusiasm is genuine to the core...”

Sure, but I have a feeling that his 10 yr contract is just a sign of solidarity for the current regime.

He could be forced into retirement at any time. If their QBs meltdown next year and Texas goes 5-7, he could easily be "retired" next January.

Now, if the offense takes a step or two forward, that leads to a scenario where Brian Harsin takes over in a couple years. Seamless transition.

One thing I know, Mack Brown will not be coaching at Texas in 5 years, contract or not.

Texas is the largest talent area in the nation.. those kids grow up wanting to play for Texas, them having a top class should NEVER surprise anyone.

They won't be any better as a team until they can find a Qb. They already are loaded with 4 and 5 star talent..

Texas over the past couple of years has bled into the water and the rest of the B12 isnt scared of them anymore. They may very well get back to some dominance, but they fell behind while others have grown. Nebraska is feeling that same thing.

Re: Texas reloading... top-ranked recruiting class

Texas doesn't necessarily recruit so much as tell kids, "yeah you're good enough to be a Longhorn", more of an invitation. The issue they had a few years back was somewhat related to early signing of kids who had peaked way early. That coupled with the "miss" on Garrett Gilbert kept them out of high level competition for a couple years. Long term, they will be just fine.

Pretty sure the same thing was said about "The U" not too long with an even more fertile recruiting base.

    This.

Texas doesn't recruit players, they invite players.

There is not a more fertile recruiting base than the state of Texas. God, and everything else, takes a back seat to football in that state.

Found this article and you are correct...although it's closer than you might think. Texas is also the second largest state in terms of population. That skews things. I'd be curious to see which state produces more NFL players. I'd bet Florida.

The thing that puts UT farther ahead than Miami as far as "home state" dominance is that a lot more Texas talent is willing to and wants to stay in the state of Texas.

Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of Texas kids spread accross the country. But I think a larger percentage of those highly rated Texas kids have bought into the "great state of Texas" philosophy and choose to go to UT. Miami has to share top shelf FL talent with the rest of the SEC, Big East (to an extent), and others.

UT, because of their dominance in state has taken a more firm hold than the Miami did in FL. UT was helped along by ATM squandering the talent they had with mediocre coaching (sorry Sherman). OU has threatened UTs dominance in the state of Texas but they still have to battle with being just North of the Texas border. Tech, Baylor, TCU, and all the other big schools in TX are trying to catch up, but UT probably wont be unseated as the "destination" for TX highschool football players.
