Re: 9 Votes in the Coaches' Poll

I didn't expect to make top 25 but I thought we would get more than 9 votes. But then again, it is usually better to be unranked than ranked with our record

ďI told you, I donít care if youíre black or white. I donít care if youíre rich or poor. I donít care where you come from, whether itís Texas, Florida, California, or right here in the state of Iowa, I donít care about any of thatÖ But what I did care about is moving forward from that day on, that we were one team." -Paul Rhoads

It's good to see Larry getting some more love at Southern Miss--they've been tearing up C-USA and are only a few points away from being an undefeated team (with no "marquee" wins, granted).

Re: 9 Votes in the Coaches' Poll

Pretty crappy. I think the Texas loss hurt us, but we just beat the #5 team in the country who was previously undefeated in conference play. Were in 4th place in the conference so its not like it was a fluke win, were clearly a good team. I thought we'd get a little more love than that but oh well. And anyone who says they don't want the number next to our name is dumb, being in the top 25 gains respect because most people follow what the top 25 is doing

No question we are ranked if we had taken care of business instead of laying an egg in Austin. We'd have taken KSU's spot for sure.

You're dumb because you think "respect" means something. We shouldn't give a rat's *** what "most people follow." The only respect we need is from the tournament selection committee. Get us into the tourney and we can take it from there.

AP poll is now posted at the same link. ISU is 35th with 3 points.

I just want a nice number by our name come selection time. Being ranked is fun though I'll admit.

    It's a legitimate question.

KSU had a much better resume 3 weeks ago, probably due to strength of schedule. Still holds true to some extent compared to ISU's non-conference ó on paper, K-State's non-league slate is far better than Iowa State's.

    On paper.

    K-State played:
    @Virginia Tech (W)
    West Virginia (L) (Semi-neutral court)
    Alabama (W) (in KC)
Long Beach State (better opponent than any ISU mid/low-major)

And KSU did beat Missouri at home (ISU did not)

Jury is still out on Alabama (based on preseason) and VT is not looking good in a top-heavy/bottom-crappy ACC.

Beat KSU today, and the ****** flips.

An even easier answer is that KSU was ranked in last week's poll. Right or wrong there is a lot of inertia in the polls. Those ranked tend to stay ranked and those unranked tend to stay unranked. A team has to work hard to move up or really screw up to plummet. Most movement in the polls is rather glacial.

"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldnít get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr
