    Former Cyclones Playing Overseas

I keep pretty close tabs on former Cyclones playing professionally. Thought you all might like a list of former players and how they are doing.

Tyray Pearson---Playing in a lower league in France after bouncing around Europe but averages 16 ppg and close to 9 rebounds. Always thought he was an underrated player at ISU

Stevie Johnson---Played in Spain almost his entire career and is now playing in Argentina. He has developed an outside shot and IIRC, he led a Spanish League in 3 point shooting one year

Jackson Vroman---Playing in China and South Korea. Averaging 25 pts 9 rebs in Chinese League

Jared Homan---Played in several leagues throughout Europe averaging right around 10-12 points and 8 rebs the entire time. In November, he was released from a team after he punched a coach

Chris Alexander---Only played a few games for Iowa State but I thought he had a shot at playing in the league. Played in South Korea and China recently and was a lock for a double double every night. Last I heard, he was in the D-League. Had a 28 rebound game in the D-League in 2008

Corey McIntosh---Played one year at ISU. Now plays in Finland after bouncing around a bit. Its a very low rated league and Corey averages 14 ppg 3.8 apg

Marcus Fizer---Primed for a comeback only lasted 1 game with a Taiwan team. Scored 23 points and 13 rebs in the game. Not sure where he will end up but I thought I heard he was going to play an A league in France

Martin Rancik---Couldn't find anything on him this year but he has played in a bunch of different leagues and averaged 8-10 points wherever he has been. ***My favorite Cyclone of all-time

Tasheed Carr---Had played in China and with the Erie D-League team and is now with Rochester of the Premier Basketball League averaging 13 ppg

Brandon Hawkins---Not many people remember him except if you mention he was Jaleel White (Steve Urkell's) cousin. Transferred to San Jose State and played a little overseas.

Damion Staple---Played for a Mexican team and most recently played in Chile. Also, I think he played for his national team (Jamaica)

Mike Taylor---Playing in Greece. Averaging 12 ppg

Jiri Hubalek---Playing in a really low rated league in Iran averaging 21 ppg and 8 rpg. Had been playing in a tougher league in Italy

Will Blalock---Played in Australia and a short time in Germany. Had been playing in Canadian League. Recently signed by Reno of D-League

Reggie George---Didnt play overseas but is now in the Premier Basketball League. Always thought it was funny that he was serious about declaring for the NBA Draft after his Jr year at NAIA Robert Morris

Garrett is playing in France after leaving a Croatian team, KK Zagreb Co - only played 3 games, 12 mpg, 3.7 ppg. The team, JSF Nanterre is playing in the Pro A (first division) of the French Basketball league. With Nanterre, he's been playing 25.1 mpg, 9.3 ppg in 11 games.

    Re: Former Cyclones Playing Overseas

Why is it so many guys only last a very short time with overseas teams, even only a matter of days in some cases?

The biggest risk is the owner can't pay you. I am not sure about their own situations, though. But I recall there was an article in the rag some time ago interviewing former Cyclones and Hawkeyes players who once played overseas and one mentioned that the team ran out of money.

    Re: Former Cyclones Playing Overseas

Here's an update on someone who played for ISU, but who was not a Cyclone.

Very strange that the article concludes that he knows what it means to play tenacious defense. Perhaps that is because others played tenacious defense against him. I don't recall him playing any defense whatsoever, let alone defense of the tenacious sort.

defense must mean something different in german

"Day after day, situation after situation you do things the right way. If you do things the right way, in life, you are going to be successful. I'm not just your football coach; I'm not just here to win games. I could not be prouder of who we are and who we are becoming, together. You do things right in the classroom, off and on the field; that's whats's makes us Cyclones and that's what our culture's all about."

My son is 11 and is playing on two teams here this year, a 12 and under team and a 14 and under. He is also involved in a select training program. Defense is an after thought. The coach of the 14U team is from Serbia and he does stress it a little bit but nothing like in America. All they care about is if you can score.
