Davis starting WR, Arnaud no 2 QB

    Per the rag.

So no redshirt on Austin?? I'm kind of disappointed. I hate for him to sit on the bench and waste a year.

I think he only loses a year if he actually plays. If he just sits on the bench all year it would still count as a redshirt year. I could be wrong.

Yeah he can be the number 2 QB by depth chart but as long as we don't use him he will still have 4 years left to play as long as we red shirt him...keep your fingers crossed there will be no reason to use a backup QB this year

That is true. Harrison Beck of NE sat on the bench as backup qb the whole year as a red shirt until playing 3 minutes in a game. Then that was his Big red career.

CFH HMagic bball season next year.

I guess I meant to say that differently. I'm assuming if he is no 2 and only sits, it can still be a redshirt year? Hopefully someone with a better understanding can answer. (edit: whoops, already did) I just hate to see him come in for one series like with Bandy in the late 90s. I guess if that series is important thats ok, you have to win the game. But what if the game is in hand? Is that worth it?

If we are all hoping for him to have no reason to come in, then what would happen in these first two games? Are we hoping for close games?

I doubt we would use Arnaud off the bench in a blowout situation, if that is what you are referring to. Obviously in that situation, we would likely bring in Van Winkle. I can't imagine they would burn Arnaud's redshirt to get him some reps in a 42-7 blowout.

Actually, I think this follows the thinking that if Arnaud plays this year and Bates redshirts next year then we will have Meyer next 2 years, Arnaud following 2 years, and then Bates 2 years all as starters.

Seems like a good plan to me!

Absolutely. Give Arnaud 2 years of occassional (or hopefully not-too-occassional) playing time on the field under Meyer then 2 years starter. BAtes comes in and redshirts--has 1 redshirt year under Meyer/Arnaud--2 years under Arnaud (again with hopefully not-too-occasional playing time) and 2 years starting QB.

Well, whatever happens is fine--but don't get all mushy about wasting a redshirt year 'cause our 6 year future is looking decent at QB either way (with the predictable disclaimer that nobody knows the future).

    From the presser...

Austin Arnaud will be the backup quarterback but will not play unless necessary. All hopes are that Arnaud will be able to save this year's eligibility.
    That settles that! :)

This troubles me, in the open practice, Austin looked horrible. He threw an interception and was always throwing behind the WR when throwing to a WR on the run. I know he is only a freshman so why even risk having the chance of him playing.

    ISUFan22,

Did you mean shocked that we used him or shocked that we actually had a 42-7 lead?
