Who else is ready for mens bball 07 to start

Im excited for basketball to start this year with so many new and talented players. Im also excited about our recruiting for the next several years. I know we were picked to finish something like last or second to last in the big 12 but I just dont see us being that bad. Most of the players had gained a good amount of weight so they should be able to compete in the big 12 better. We might have lost taylor, dunson, and mcintosh, But with the people we brought in we should be alright. Taylor might have led the team in scoring but he also led the team in turnovers. He averaged something like 16 a game and mcintosh scored under 8 i believe. If the starting point guard and shooting guard could score 10 a piece that would make up for the two departed guards. We have wesley, rashon, and jiri back which should provide for some stability this year with newcomers playing a big role.

This is how I see the starting five to start the season
    PG-Diante Garrett
SG-Sean Haluska/Lucca Staiger depending on ruling
    SF-Rashon Clark
    PF-Wesley Johnson
    C-Jiri Hubalek

As a guy who would like to be a head coach for a high school basketball team someday the way i see success is to always have a good scorer in a guard and a post. personally the way I would set up the team would be something like the Detroit Pistons a couple years ago when they won the NBA title

PG- strong ball handler, leader, makes players around him better
SG-main scorer on team, good shooter and slasher
SF-can do it all, rebound, score, and play good defense, defend opponents teams best
    player
PF-Athletic post player who is a good scorer and shot blocker
C-Dominant post presence, keeps players from driving lane and intimidate shots

This is how I would like the team set up
    PG-Diante Garrett
    SG-Lucca Staiger
    SF-Wesley Johnson
    PF-Craig Brackins
    C- Jiri Hubalek

I think that would be the best scoring team. We know we will be a good program when the other teams are adjusting their lineup to our players.

For recruiting we have alot to be excited about. For the 09 class alone we have these players listing us
    1. 1 5* player in Nolan Dennis
    2. 5 4* players including lockett, white, williams, johnson, wilson
    3. and several three star players

We only have l or 2 scholarships to give out next year and hopefully we land Trent Lockett who is a top 100 player and a 4* recruit

For the 2010 Class we are going after really good players
    1. Jordan Dykstra-committed top 50 player we think
    2. Harrison Barnes- Local kid who will be a 4 or 5 star player
    3. Darius Stevens- 6-6 guard/SF who I have heard will be a top 150 player
    4. Evan Anderson- 5* center. Most likely will be a badger but is atleast
    considering us.
Mcdermott is recruiting alot better than I had ever imagined when he got the job. Im glad he doing well and we know our program is in good hands and if he does well I dont think hes ever going anywhere to where he will be like a Bill Fennely. Sorry I probly spelled his name wrong. Hopefully once he gets this program going all the talent he spots early will start to committ to us instead of elsewhere.

I know rankings are not usually very accuarte but I will say that I believe that basketball rankings are alot more accuarate than the football rankings. Alot of the top players drafted for the NBA are former 5* players. Unlike in football It seems alot of the top picks are former 4* players like calvin johnson, joe thomas, vernon davis. former 3* A.J. Hawk and lots of others.

I got my basketball poster the other day so im ready for the season to start. Lets surprise everyone and win the bit 12 just like in 2000 when we were picked last and won the conference and on to the elite 8.

Basketball Practice starts October 12 and The first exhibition game is November 1st and the first game is in the cyclone challenge against Winston-Salem State

3 days 'til practice starts. I'm beyond excited for ISU MBB to start up again. Anyone know if there are plans to televise our MBB games on Clone Zone?

Re: Who else is ready for mens bball 07 to start

I'm excited to see the new guys but as far as epectations I think we'll see about the same results in the W/L collumn as last season. The 08-09 season is where I think we'll start to make some real noise again. These newcomers are going to go threw a learning curve this season I think but in the long run it should pay off in the seasons to follow.

Some are quick to downplay the loss of Taylor but I honestly think we are going to miss him more than some think. For those that saw the first couple games we played without him then the next few once he joined the team saw that we were a completely different team without him. Someone is going to have to step up a create a shot when the shot clock runs down. Taylor was that guy, we'll see if anyone can step up and do the same in this bunch.

Also, despite Brackin's high star rating, if you saw him play in the Capitol City League you'd have seen he is a pretty raw talent at this point. I wouldn't be expecting huge things from this kid just yet but give him a year to bulk up more and get in DMac's system and I think he could be a good player. I see Thompson, Jiri, and CJ getting a bulk of the post minutes I think with Brackins getting extending minutes if he comes in and shows something right away. Sort of like how CJ was used a little last year I think, when he came in and contributed right away he stayed in more and when he just didn't have it that night they kept him on the bench more.

I'm more excited for the Texas game this Saturday, but I'd be lying if I said I haven't been anticipating the start of basketball season since mid-April!

If Staiger is not our starting shooting guard we are in trouble.

I really like what Staiger brings to the floor. I don't know if we have a pure playmaker like Taylor in the bunch as Trav said earlier, but I know I'm really looking forward to finding out.

Very EXCITED about the start of the season. I love our team and our chances of proving others wrong with our record in the Big XII.

travman23 is right, we will miss Taylor.

Re: Who else is ready for mens bball 07 to start

I really think our best lineup is Garrett, Staiger, W. Johnson, Clark and Hubalek. I have Wes listed at the three because obviously he's a better ballhandler than Rahshon, but the two are interchangable.

I'd get into my good feelings for this year, as well as some of my disappointments, but it's nothing that everyone else hasn't said already.

I agree, he impressed me the most this summer out of all the recruits. I think Garrett and Brackins could develop into some special players but I think their bodies aren't quite ready for the physical Big 12 play quite yet. Boozer and Haluska will be nice role players and Boozer and Brister by far looked to have the most Big 12 ready bodies from what I saw. Sean is not nearly as physical as Adam but you can see that athleticism similarities.

I'm still not buying anything on Haluska til I see him in a game. He can shoot in practice, but so could Jacobson.

We had a blast at Hilton last year, first season that we had season tickets and we don't plan on changing that anytime soon.

I don't care who's on the floor, I just want to see effort, execution and improvement each week. I think we could be slightly better than last year, pending our guard play (again). I have no idea what the rest of the Big 12 is supposed to look like this year, so really have no idea what to expect in W/Ls.

I will be beyond pi$$ed if CB transfers to South Florida

Im just glad I have Homan as my bodyguard, Eustachy joked. If I ever make it real big and get to drive a limo everyday, hell be driving it. I thought he came off the bench like somebody was stealing his cow or something.

I'm already excited for the season to start. I looked up the schedule yesterday to make sure I didn't work on any of the nights that we have a game. I'm ready for some good walking tacos ...the bball ones are better than the football ones.

Re: Who else is ready for mens bball 07 to start

I'm not ready to throw this season under the bus yet. Yes, we lost Taylor and it's going to hurt. However, I firmly believe that, whether it's Staigler or Haluska, we will be VASTLY better at SG this season. I didn't get much of a chance to watch us last year (stuck in Big XII South territory), but the stat line tells me that McIntosh only put up 4.4 PPG last year, so it's not going to take much for an improvement. I also seem to recall thinking that we didn't have anybody (Taylor included) who could penetrate and drive the lane last year, which we (theoretically) have in Garrett. Won't hurt to be able to have someone (Brackins) we can use to rotate with Clark, CJ, and Wesley
