    The all-time "Matchup Nightmare" team

It started with a tweet I had, then a John Walters suggestion. With his help and the help of Brent Blum, I give you the Cyclone Men's Basketball all-time "Matchup NIghtmare" team.

    Vanderbeeken was a tough matchup.

Worthy of a mention...avg 7.6 points, 4.01 rebounds and 1.11 blocked shots and made 108 career 3's (9th most all time).

Kenny Pratt was the 1st that popped into my head. He was 6-3 at most, but one of the best low post scorers we've ever had. Half the time you couldn't even see him, but all of a sudden the ball would pop up out of the trees. He caused more foul problems for opposing defenders than any Clone I can think of that side of Royce White.

With DG's height could he be considered? I know he never had the scoring until his senior campaign, but was a very tough guy to guard. I only wish he could have had more time under Hoiberg.

Re: The all-time "Matchup Nightmare" team

Jeff Hornacek just due to his shooting 3 pointers before they were 3 pointers. Nobody guarded out as far as he was shooting just do to the fact they were only counted as 2 points. Thus, everyone would shoot from 10 feet. Jeff would launch bombs for 2 points. Then they made the 3 point line his junior year I believe.

Hornacek never had the 3-point line at his disposal while in college.

You've got to include Tinsley in this list don't you? The career stats I found are 12.5 ppg, 6.3 assists, 4.5 rebs, 2.6 steals, and 0.8 blocks. Not to mention no one could stay in front of him.

    YESS!

He was inadvertantly left off of the "Stat Sheet Stuffer" list because he didn't meet the 5 reb/game that I started with. His assists, steals, and blockes obviously make up for that, though.

    My bad, and thanks.

I'm not a twitter guy. So who is the player from the first sentence that closely matches Royce's numbers? Did I miss that? I'm curious.

Yes. None of those lists is any good without a great point guard (no slight to Royce, as he is very good as a point-forward). Throw Tinsley into any lineup, and the defense already has pressure on it, and every player is made better. I'd also throw Cato in there somewhere for the catch-all defensive player.

Re: The all-time "Matchup Nightmare" team

    How about-

    PG- Tinsley
    G- Hornacek
    F- Freddie
    PF- Royce White
    C- Cato

    How do you guard that?

Those were Vroman's numbers from his senior year.

Agreed but I don't think we were trying to put lineups together...I think they were more just naming the 5 guys that they thought fit the matchup nightmare description.

Sorry, my OCD requires me to put things in some kind of ordered format
