    Creighton's Offense

I watched the Creighton/Drake game last night and I couldn't believe how good Creighton's offense looked. I don't ever remember an ISU team looking that good. I hope this doesn't turn into a McDermott bashing thread -- does anyone have any honest speculation on this discrepancy?

    Re: Creighton's Offense

Not to be too simplistic, but it's the difference between the MVC and the Big XII. The Big XII has better athletes who can be more disruptive on the defensive end.

Okay, how did we lose to both Drake and UNI then?

    Re: Creighton's Offense

McDermott started at UNI and had success with the type of offense he ran there. He then tried to bring that scheme to the Big 12, and it took him a few years to realize that it probably wouldn't work out, but by that time it was almost too late. He then got a fresh start at Creighton, doing what he should of done in the first place at ISU.

The ISU game is UNI's and Drake's "super bowls"

    THIS.

The ISU team that is playing right now is much better than at the beginning of the season.

Well then don't post about mcdoormat. He's not a good coach. The MVC is bad.

And conversely, the ISU team from then would be doing very poorly in the big 12 now.

Apparently the 3,000+ () plays from the book work better in the MVC.

I think on a neutral court, Creighton could beat at least half the Big 12 teams right now. They may be an MVC team, but they have both size and speed, and they do run an offense built around that.

    Re: Creighton's Offense

Greg's offense at ISU had 3 components.

    1. Have your best shooting guard stand in the corner of the baseline. Stand real close to the corner so it is easy to defend you. Do NOT move until posession is over.

    2. Have your NBA caliber center hang around on the 3 point line after a 2 second appearance in the paint early in the posession.

    3. The other three need to stand around a lot. And, make sure you are close enough to another ISU player so it only takes one person from other team to guard you. If you must pass make sure it is a softly thrown lob to assure defender has adequate time to intercept.

That pretty much describes the way I remember it.

you forgot 4) always make at least one pass per game to someone standing out of bounds.
