    BCS solutions?

With the amount of teams deserving to be in the BCS title game being a crapshoot, more than likely someone will be screwed over this year. Iowa State had 5 close losses, so they're probably out. Anyways, we all bash the system, but I'm curious what types of alternatives there are that wouldn't extend the season too much.

I also heard on Cotlar this morning that the NCAA actually doesn't recognize a national champion. Someone let me know if I heard that wrong or if that is true.

If they went to a playoff, where do you draw the lines....4 teams, 8 teams, 16 teams? There's always going to back that extra team that should have been considered

8 teams. We should have never went to a 12-game schedule. 11 game schedule + 8 team playoff + the other bowl games for the non-top 8. And I would feel much better than leaving out the 9th team (who will likely have at least 2 losses) than a potential #3 team with NO losses.

I don't understand the resistance to a playoff...those games would be freaking cash cows.

That exists in the basketball tournament, but it didn't stop anyone from creating it.

It's a lot bigger issue to have a team "left out" of a field of 8-16 playoff teams than it is to "leave out" a team at the very top.

Good point. I just don't know what solutions exist out there, thats why I asked.

16 teams...The conference champion from each of the 11 FBS conferences, + 5 at large, with at least one at-large being an FBS independent.

Or 12 teams, one from each of the 11 FBS conferences plus one FBS independent. Run it like the Big 12 tourney. The 8 teams with the lowest "rating" (whatever that rating system would be) play in the first round. All teams particiapting in the tourney must have a winning record. If for some reason, a conference champion or none of the independents have winning records, that spot in the bracket stays empty, and one more team gets a bye in the first round.

I like the last one better. It will eliminate the haggling and subjective nature of taking at large teams from the FBS conferences.

    Re: BCS solutions?

There are plenty of solutions out there that are better than the current one, for the game anyways.

However, the controversy generates conversation, interest, debate, etc. All of which help generate some money too. Unfortunately that speaks the loudest.

Yet, March Madness is one of the biggest spectacles each year. Not just in sports, but in anything. CFB could create the same type of environment and cash via a playoff system if they would just have the nerve to make the change. No way those sponsors would pull anchor and go elsewhere.

Where else can they go and get the same level of advertisement? Nowhere.

    Yup...either of these is fine.

I put together a detailed playoff scenario at the end of the CFB regular season last year and it looked exactly like what you are talking about. But I'm too lazy to go back and find that post.

    Re: BCS solutions?

16.........that's four games. Drop the season down to 11 games, end the conference championship games. Only two extra games overall. And it will never happen. Why else do you think they decided to play a 12th game? They figured it adds one more game to be an impediment to a playoff.

As someone that played, it is good to get your opinion.

Why do you prefer the system as it is, putting your player hat back on?

    Re: BCS solutions?

The problem I see with going to a a 8 or 16 team playoff is that there is no way you can keep other bowls that have much financial benefit or excitement. In my opinion this continues to promote a few tradition and financially rich schools and doesn't promote parity in CFB. Parity is something that has been increasing in resent years to an extent.

    Re: BCS solutions?

I still don't understand why some of the other bowls can't exists. You would really only need to eliminate the 5 BCS bowls and maybe one or two others. Works.

If anything, this promotes more parity. A team like '06/'07 Boise State gets a real shot at a title. Anyone it the playoffs has a chance.
