How Allen's Play Links to Wins

First off, this isn't a shot at Chris Allen, it is an observation at how the team performs in line with how he plays. I do think he is the best option right now for PG by physical abilities.

Chris Allen has been the primary PG for 12 games and has an A:TO of less than 1 five times...home win over MVSU, home win over UT, home loss to MU, loss at KU, and loss at UT. His A:TO numbers are below average for a PG in the first place, but when he has bad games in that regard the results are iffy. The other 7 games ISU is 7-0.

Also, when CA shoots 33.3% or better ISU is 10-1 (lone loss was at KU).

When he tries to be the man. We lose or come close to losing. When he plays a team game we win. It's really that simple.

Well, I wouldn't claim to know his intent.

I can tell his intent usually within the first 5 minutes of the game. If he comes out chuckin contested shots he is trying to be the man. If he passes it around he is playing a team game.

Zero assists for a PG is unacceptable. Chunking up contested shots with 30 seconds left on the play clock is unacceptable. Bench him. Start Tyrus in his place.

Tyrus is best off of the bench.

great point. How do any of us know if he's "better" off the bench when he hasnt even had a chance to start a game here? We dont.

BTW this situation reminds me of the one Baylor had with pierre jackson and A.J. Walton. Jackson was the 6th man because walton is a senior and jackson was a great spark off the bench. But it was obvious that jackson was the better player and the team was better with jackson playing more minutes so jackson was put in the starting lineup.

CA is playing much better in the last four games. He almost blocked the shot at the end of the game when he was guarding two players. CA needs to play well all the time. He has the ability to be a big contributor.

He is playing out of position. Not making excuses, but I don't think that is something you just walk into your senior year. The shot selection thing really has me scratching my head. I often question CA's b-ball IQ when he makes these bad decisions (which happens in nearly every game).

I think not having Bubu hurts us in this aspect and apparently CFH is not comfortable enough with Sledge to have him out there.

He's been playing extremely well off of the bench. Why change things.

He doesn't start because scott and allen are seniors. Hoiberg likes scott because scott reminds him of himself at ISU. And he promised Chris Allen that he would play; plus he distributes the ball better. For these reasons tyrus wont start, which is fine. He should be playing 30 minutes a game though. Tyrus shoots it well but has very few assists. But at the same time also has very few turnovers. He hustles, plays solid defense, and is a vocal leader. He also is our most efficient scoring and rebounding guard on the team. This thread shows all those things.
