    What If?

    A plus-one playoff through the years: 2008-2011 - CBSSports.com

How a four-team playoff would have changed things: Plenty. No. 1 LSU vs. No. 4 Stanford and No. 2 Alabama vs. No. 3 Oklahoma State would have added some texture, clarity, fairness and, well, offense to the proceedings.
Step back, Slive. Back off, Saban. Move away, Miles. College football would have gotten even, broken the SEC death grip.
"We'd have thrown it 50 times," Mike Gundy told USA Today. "You like to think Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon could have put together some touchdowns. Get the ball thrown down the field and open some things up. Try to make it exciting, and see what happens."

CFH HMagic bball season next year.

    Re: What If?

I've been saying all along that Oklahoma State should have gotten a shot. Alabama's schedule reads just as bad as Boise State's does, and maybe even worse, as far as Total Offense rankings of opponents go.

It's hilarious that he thinks OSU would have beaten Alabama. The way that team played in the title game, nobody could have beaten them.

    Re: What If?

I was really hoping for LSU to take care of business, because I want to see the rule change where it states that a team has to be a conference championship to eligible for the title game. Since that would have meant that non-conference champions would have been 0-3 in the title game. Maybe it still will though with the controversy created by an all-SEC championship game.

this. I'm all for big 12 pride, and I think it's ridiculous that they let 2 teams from the same conference play each other when other teams play a completely different set of teams, but there is no way OK Lite would of beat Bama. They should be happy they escaped with a win from Stanford, which got lit up by Oregon.

We'll never know now though, will we...

And just because Alabama lit up LSU doesn't mean it proved they deserved to be there in the first place.

You mean you don't think Brandon Weeden could have completed wide open passes to receivers that Jordan Jefferson couldn't ? Alabamas offense was good, but was made to look suburb by a totally enept LSU offense. Okie State would have put up plenty of points on Bama.

I don't think the receivers would have been open. Alabama at least gave lip service to the threat of the run from LSU.

OSU? They couldn't run through a wet paper bag. The passing game would have been blanketed and Weeden would have been buried under a truckload of coverage sacks.

In my opinion, of course. =) I do think it's a shame they didn't get to play. Speculation aside, I'd love to see, *to know* if I'm right about this or not.

OSU certainly could run through teams - they just didn't need to because nobody but ISU could contain their passing game. Anytime they chose to run they looked good doing it, and their running game could have rated much higher if they cared.

EDIT: Case in point, while their YPG was only 51st or so in the nation at around 158 yards, they were 13th in the nation at 5.3 yards per carry.
