Price of Poker--and, coaches salary is going UP.......

To lure Brent Venables from Oklahoma, Clemson is in the process of finalizing a multi-year deal that will pay the former Sooners defensive coordinator near $800,000 per season, according to a source.

Clemson has two coordinators whose combined salary will eclipse $2 million in 2012, the highest combined coordinator pay in the country. Offensive coordinator Chad Morris is the nationís highest paid assistant with a new deal paying him $1.3 million annually.

That's a lot of dough for a school that has been very good, but not spectacular recently. I guess they are doing what they can to keep their guys from being poached and deter lesser HC offers.

Not just Clemson, a D-line coach at Washington is set to get paid $500K/year. Crazy stupid but I guess the new Pac 12 network money is being put to good use when you count the hires of Mike Leach and Rich Rod.
Too bad the Big 12 would not come together like this and really rake in the big bucks.

IMO this hurts us, but not as much as it hurts non-BCS teams. They're going to start losing coordinators to be position coaches. Nebraska's staff salaries came out today and they are not much above what ISU is paying (other than the HC, who is making $800k more). I also don't think that iowa pays much more than ISU does other than the HC.

It will also be more difficult for non-BCS schools to hire BCS coordinators as head coaches.
