If the school dismisses you from its team, isn't release implied?

That's a real crappy way to conduct business (and it is a business). This kind of stuff will provide a nice little way to undermine KU in recruiting.

    Re: Sad if True

There's some speculation that it's in response to issues they've had getting the kid on campus in the first place.

Berglund graduated high school early and enrolled at KU last December. He arrived on campus in January and began taking classes but quickly returned to Colorado because of what the university called “personal circumstances.”
Since that time, however, sources have said that Berglund has not been present at voluntary summer workouts and has continued to deal with legal issues back in Colorado.
Report: KU QB Brock Berglund charged with assault in Colorado | KUsports.com

He didn't play for them this fall. I don't buy a new coaching staff taking it out on a kid they don't even know, however. I prefer to believe that Weis is the ********* we've always known him to be and is doing this because that's just the way he is.

The kid must have found Charlie's secret stash of glazed donuts in the team facility.

    Re: Sad if True

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe in a case like this if you sit out a year w/o a scholarship at another school you can then accept a scholarship.

So basically, you would have to use your redshirt/transfer year without a scholarship.

if it takes them a decade to recover back to a 2-10 season that would be pretty sad

The kids has been a head case his whole time there (or not there). If he wanted to be released he probably should have handled things more professionally.

If what the press release says is true, it's disrespectful to take away all of a kid's opportunities to play football. The alleged victim's background doesn't justify unprofessional actions like this.

That said, I'm interested to hear KU's side of the story before making an judgment.

According to Former KU quarterback Brock Berglund issues statement saying KU won't grant release | Tale of the Tait | KUsports.com the timing of the thing was that he was denied the ability to talk to other coaches, then he skipped a team meeting, then he was kicked off the team. At least the way I read it.

If they don't release him from his scholarship won't it count toward their 85 'ship limit?

Nope. This is where the process is screwed up. The scholarship is renewable, and they can choose not to. But independent of the actual scholarship is the paper known as the letter of intent, which binds him to KU with or without scholarship. Without an official release, he will lose a year of eligibility, have to RS, and basically be able to play a year at his new school. The system is screwed up. Most of the times the release is just a formality, but a school can decide to really screw over a student athlete if they choose, which might be what KU is doing.

I know it isn't CPR's MO, but this is the kind of thing the recruits for whom we are going head to head with KU should know.

Ahh, the old "you're fired but you can't look for another job" routine. You are all class, Chuck.
