    Re: Chris Street

I grew up a hawk fan and I still vividly remember Keith Murphy breaking the news. Street was my favorite at the time.

    Re: Chris Street

    That was a GREAT read.

Remember the night it hit the news but it wasn't too big of a deal for me as I was only 8 at the time.

However, I never knew about the shootings at UofI in '91. Tragic.

I remember some (or most) of the Hawk players shaving "#40" or just "40" into their hair.

I remember this like it was yesterday. On days like those it puts rivalry into perspective. It was terribly sad no matter what colors you wore.

I really enjoyed watching that guy. Fun player. Really terrible way to end.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

After his death, I remember Iowa coming back from something like 16 points down at Michigan State to get the W on a cold Thursday night. Helluva game.

    Re: Chris Street

I grew up in Indianola (as a Cyclone fan), and still that hurts me to read. Everything they write or say about Chris is true and then some. He wasn't a perfect person, but he was genuine. He'd come back and work with little kids at basketball camp in Indianola even while at Iowa, and he was actually teaching rather than there just screwing around.

I also remember the evening that the Iowa High School Athletic Association put him in their Hall of Fame, which was perhaps not coincidentally the same night that Indianola was playing in and winning the state title in 2001. I remember what the P.A. guy said just before they honored him, "Everybody loved Chris Street."

No doubt. It was a blow to the entire state. I believe Hoiberg wore #40 the rest of the season

They also beat the Michigan Fab Five in the game right after that (in Iowa City), which was one of the few times in my life that I really cheered for Iowa.

    Re: Chris Street

I am friends with Chris's family. His nephew is going to be a beast in football. Already like a foot taller than every other 5th grader. He weighed 156 last year and is just a big kid. Really nice family.

Someone from ISU, who grew up in Iowa, wore #40 each year. I know freddy did and was thinking Loren Meyer might have also.
