    Royce's New FT Form

Not something I've seen anyone talk about... Looks like Royce has a new form/routine for his FT's. It's a more consistent routine and he shoots on his toes much more than he did before. Didn't get much of a sample tonight with only 4 FTA, but it "looked" better.

Speaking along these lines, why does Chris Allen stand 8 inches behind the free throw line?

    Re: Royce's New FT Form

His best FT form is when he's doing everything else except shooting FT's.

Well, at least he didn't leave any short (from my memory). Seemed like he had a bit more bounce in his ankles anyway.

The ball also has more arch and backspin and appears to be a softer shot, indicating he's using his fingertips more.

He's clearly been working on his shot. Made another 3 pointer yesterday. If he develops a 8-12 foot shoot, how do you stop him?

    Re: Royce's New FT Form

A few of us up in the rafters noticed this in pre-game warmups so we were paying attention, and he drained 5 of 6 in one session. Different than shooting them in the game, but he definitely seemed more comfortable.

Hilton also gets so quiet when Royce is on the line, then we groan when he misses one, I think we need to do some cheering or something. Kind of like when Happy Gilmore tees off during one of his first tournaments and everyone is silent...come on, let's make a little noise here!!

I noticed he moved his left foot back slightly.

Not sure how he was earlier but the last two games it looks like his left leg is back a bit compared to the right one. Before I think they were even.

    Re: Royce's New FT Form

Royce drained 5 of 6 in pregame warmups. More importantly, they looked good. Before tonight his FT attempts were just all over the place (form, arc, etc.). Good to see that he is working on it.

I liked the consistency of form at the FT line. It can only help.

I think it is a balance and alignment thing. A lot of people do it. Paul Pierce is one.

Have him get screwed by a ref on one call and commit a stupid foul on another early in the first half of games.

I noticed this too. He had one in front of the other as opposed to having them even like I think he did at Kansas. He was also finishing on his toes, like they were saying he needed to, so it is definitely being addressed.

His hands are so big, it has to be difficult for him to put any touch on the ball without short-arming it. I'm confident he and Me Mayor will get it figured out.

    Re: Royce's New FT Form

I am disappointed in the whole teams FT shooting this year. Does anyone have the stats right off hand? It is just crazy how pretty much the best free throw shooter on earth as the coach and we struggle a lot from the line.

67% as a team is bad. The problem is that Royce is dragging that down 5% because he attempts and misses a lot. The rest of the team is 72%, which isn't great but isn't terrible.
