Before there is any Hilton Magic bashing from tonights game...

I just wanted to say that most of you "glory day" guys on here complaining and whining about the current atmosphere of Hilton were probably involved in some of the most pathetic crowd turnouts and atmosphere Jack Trice had to offer. The current football student section and current atmosphere in the Jack is way better than "back in your day."

So, if the roles were switched, and the current students could have seen some of the lackluster crowds of previous decades in the Jack, I hope you would expect them to return the favor and call you out after every home game, say you just don't care, it will never be like it was, our days were the glory days, etc.

    Let's get a big W tonight.

Amen. This is completely true. Plus the same people complaining are people watching it on TV rather than at the game. You can't judge the crowd from the TV folks.

ďI told you, I donít care if youíre black or white. I donít care if youíre rich or poor. I donít care where you come from, whether itís Texas, Florida, California, or right here in the state of Iowa, I donít care about any of thatÖ But what I did care about is moving forward from that day on, that we were one team." -Paul Rhoads

If they don't need to repair the roof being blown off at the end of the game, it's not Hilton Magic....

The student section is not the difference in Hilton Magic from yesteryear to today - the difference is that many of the best seats at Hilton are ticketed for corporate donors. And while we rely heavily on their assistance, they are not always the most dedicated or loyal Cyclone fans.

The 2 situations aren't comparable, the people at JTS in its rough years weren't the problem, it was the amount of people there. Comparing the atmosphere in a half filled stadium to a full isn't the same as comparing the atmosphere between 2 Hiltons with the same attendance.

I just saw the video from 1992 and really paid attention the crowd... Amazing how EVERYONE participated when something happened. If your at the game tonight, pay attention who cheers the loudest and jumps up and down during big moments.

Well, to defend that argument, it is their fault they didn't show up, which made the atmosphere bad.

100% true. The problem isn't the student section, it's the season ticket holders that are too proud to stand and scream for their players. It makes me sick seeing them sit when we are trying to get back into a game or to cut it to a possession game like in the Mizzou game. In the past, these sections were as loud if not louder than the students.

My belief is that once we get a consistent winning product on the floor this will change...I hope.

Re: Before there is any Hilton Magic bashing from tonights game...

I wasn't apart of "Hilton Magic" back in the so-called "glory days", but I did start attending games regularly in 2004. Today's student section/cyclone alley isn't even comparable to what it was 6-7 years ago. But, we can all thank McDermott for that.

However, I do believe that we're on the right track back to what it was back when I first started attending games.

I also believe that we'll get back their sooner if we make one side Cyclone Alley and the other side the student section (like it was back in 2004). Think "competition".

I haven't arrived at the game yet, but I would describe the atmosphere tonight as inadequate. But section 205 will be trying to make up for the rest of you hosers.

I think so many people are locked in on CA the days of making it 1 side this and 1 side that is gone. I'm not a big fan of CA, but it's what we got and what is going to stick around. The group is way too big and solid not to be there. I remember just 3 years ago they were "selling" it as the biggest student section in the NCAA..... It won't be going anywhere for awhile.

It's only so big because people are forced to be in it. Besides, there is an upper deck on one side of the student section that sits empty every game. Put students on one side, and put CA on the side with the upper deck. Problem solved.

I hate CA. I've hated it ever since I was told I couldn't bring my giant foam brick to the games anymore. They kill creativity.
