Going Skiing in Minnesota: Mt. Kato or Afton Alps

Going up in a couple weeks and trying to decide which one to go to. I know Afton is bigger, but is it better?

Any good experiences at either one?

Drive to Spirit Mountain in Duluth. Way better than either. Between those two I would go to Afton.

Afton is better by a lot. More and better slopes. Go to Colorado, its only a few hours further

Rather than going all the way up to Duluth, you might as well drive to Colorado. (this all depending on where the OP is driving from)

Went to Mt. Kato a couple of weeks ago. I had a great time falling on my face in front of hot snowboarder girls.

For ski/snowboard places in southern Minnesota, I would probably say Welch Village > Afton Alps > Buck Hill > Mt. Kato. It has been a while since I've been to a couple of those, though.

And it's not even close. That 5 hours is not even an issue if you want some real skiing/boarding/experience

You just have to figure those 5 hours are spent driving through Nebraska and you sleep during that phase of the trip anyways.

We love Duluth, good skiing, nightlight and food. I recommend staying at either a hotel in Canal Park, or Beacon Point Resort. Beacon Point is as nice as you will find anywhere in the country.

Well If youre going to drive to Colorado, then you might as well go to Montana. Much better skiing in Montana than Colorado.

Re: Going Skiing in Minnesota: Mt. Kato or Afton Alps

I've been told that if you're learning how to snowboard you need to go to Colorado. Other than that, it's been too long since I've been to either of those places to give an opinion.
