    Interesting post game comments

You can view these at Bill Fennelly Post-Game Media Conference vs. Texas A&M - Cyclones.com

Coach F. talked about there being 14 games left and when the season ends
"I don't know what's going to happen over the next 14 games or when the season ends...when the season's over people are going to make decisions, you know, that's part of life."

"Everyone thinks I'm crazy anyway...they'll have me for a few more weeks to pick on."

Not a typical post-game comment for Coach.

I could be wrong but I seem to remember similar words a few years ago when ISU hit a tough spot and he mentioned "retiring" well before his lifetime contract. Maybe it will light a fire again?

Yeah maybe billy f has had enough and sees the handwriting on the wall that its not ever gonna get much better and its time to move on.

Id like to know if anybody remembers wbb before BF?

Remember Pam Wettig and Teresa Becker(shes the one they hired instead of BF the first time around she usually won about 6/7 games a year)

Disaster boys a complete absolute fricking disaster and if JP doesnt get a decent coach its Back to Last Place for Womens Basketball.

Maybe we should all send BF letters of support. Everyone has rough patches, I still think he is the best coach at ISU.

If he does think about leaving, hopefully it is for health reasons. I wouldnt blame him but sure would miss him.

    Re: Interesting post game comments

Bill has said similar things in the past but something seems different. The entire class that would have been seniors this year all left the program. In a conf. like the Big 12 at a place like ISU you can't sustain success losing an entire recruiting class life that. I hope it's just coach speak and if JP does ever left BF go it will haunt him forever.

    Re: Interesting post game comments

I think JP likes what Bill has done for the team as it shows up in ticket sales and success on the court. Would doubt that is the issue. Bill has taken a lot of heat recently - and rightfully so - about his on court demeanor, right down to the idiot professor who wrote the DSM Register. Still, this wouldn't be the first time that has happened. It's part of being a division 1 coach for a top level team.

Reading between the lines I would guess there are some players that have perhaps realized one of several possible things leading them to consider transferring. (1) they would prefer to play for a coach that butters their toast for them rather than getting them to do it for themselves. (2) they can't handle the toughness of Div 1 or Big 12 basketball. (3) they don't like the cold. (4) don't like their teammates. (5) some other potentially absurd or valid reason that we could guess about forever without being right. If players leave its because they have a personal reason that is just that - personal. Can't point blame at anything...its just a reason and because of it they don't fit the ISU program (or the ISU program doesn't fit them however you want to word it). Won't be the first time it happens and won't be the last. Remember, we also have gotten some outstanding players transferring IN to the program over the years. Both of our seniors are good examples.

I'm more worried about coach and the potential impact of his status on our program. First and foremost I want Bill to get his health back. It has to be scary to be working without a voice and wondering if it, a critical part of your job abilities, will come back and when. He is being a real trooper by choosing to coach through this grueling season knowing it is keeping his voice from recovering.

I'll jump on to the comment made about emails of encouragement with one addition. When you see any of the coaches or players give them some positive support. Send your favorite players an email and encourage them. They do read those things! Get in touch with the coaching staff and give them a bump up. It all matters.

He has said things like this before. There will be ups and downs in a program. He isnt going anywhere.

Bill often says stuff like that.

That being said, I'm guessing that no one besides Jess and her family feel worse about how things went down with her than Bill. I am sure he realizes he went too far and made a big mistake.

    He's probably questioning himself.

I was among the few that was going to games prior to BF, and for those whining about a four game losing streak have no idea how bad things things COULD be.

To me this means he is going to retire, but I don't watch women's basketball.

I had a front row seat for it. I kept the WBB stats at all home games 1985-1988. Hilton was so empty you could hear people in the stands talking (and not loudly either). There was one older gentleman in a gold blazer (Superfan) that went berserk at almost every home game. I had a blast doing it though.

Oh, and Wikipedia says ISU averaged 500-900 fans during that time. I call BS on that. I was one of the people that set the official attendance. We would look around the arena, and guesstimate 227, 196, whatever number we made up. It didn't really matter when there was ALWAYS less than 300 there. Games during break or bad weather would be in 50-60 range.
