OC Gameday Location - Sideline or Pressbox?

I've seen a number of people say that they'd like the OC (whether Herman or Messingham) to be on the sideline rather than in the pressbox. What do you think and why?

I like being in the pressbox where it's easier to see the field and how the defense is aligning and how different players or units are playing against certain looks. The only field level position I like is from behind the QB and unfortunately the coaches aren't allowed to stand there.

I can see wanting the OC on the side if hes also the QB coach. But typically I prefer them in the Box.

Since it's an option, I'd rather have them in the box, but honestly, I wish it wasn't an option as it detaches the coach from the game.

Since the technology is there, I say use it, but I kind of wish it wasn't.

I voted sidelines, but I suppose it depends on the personality of each coach. There's definitely something to be said for being on the sidelines for a coach who can connect with their players. Has to be easier to judge their players' moods and who is ready, and who isn't.

Sidelines. As QB coach, I think it would be helpful if they were there with our young QBs. Just because the OC isn't in the box doesn't mean you don't have other offensive coaches in the box.

Wherever they are most effective. Wally somehow sees everything from the ground.

I actually prefer my OC in the box but my DC on the sideline. I don't think there is as much emotion involved in offensive football. You have a job to do, you know where the play is going, you get a head start knowing the snap count, go kick ***. On the defense however, you have to read and react to the offense and getting emotional can help to elevate your play. That same emotion can have a negative effect on your play though, so it's important for the DC to be down there to keep the team from getting too down - like in the Pinstripe Bowl when Schiano gathered his defense together, paused, then took a deep breath. Also, because each defender is reacting to their offensive counterpart, it's less important for the DC to see the entire field.

Seems like Mess is more of a teacher hands on type guy which actually might be better for him to be on the sideline... where as Herman was more of a smart try to do to much guy that would be best served up in the box where he can be a mastermind.

Re: OC Gameday Location - Sideline or Pressbox?

I've been fortunate to have been both on the sidelines and in the booth the last few years. The excitement of the game from the sidelines is something to remember forever. Watching the game from the booth is so much more better.
You can see how everything develops from the booth where on the sidelines, you can't see ****. If I were an offensive/defensive coordinator I would demand to sit in the booth.
