    Re: Gahan article

There is a subplot in the Ames Tribune article. The story isn't all about Gahan.

    Re: Gahan article

“My first two years I was miserable,” Gahan said. “I told my parents I was quitting because it just wasn’t fun anymore.”

When Gahan made a mistake in a practice or game as a freshman and sophomore, ISU coach Bill Fennelly made sure she knew about it.

“I hated playing, and I hated him,” Gahan said. “You think, ‘Why am I always getting yelled at? Is everything I do wrong?’ No one really criticizes you in high school, and then you come to college and it seems like you can do nothing right. I became a better player and started figuring it out my last two years, and then I adored him.”

Sounds like what she said during the radio interview at half time with Molly that game.

and she had a textbook jump shot. For a short time, some sports site used a vid of her jump shot as an perfect example.

    Re: Gahan article

She scored a ridiculous number of points for someone who wasn't an aggressive offensive player and was never the team's first option to score. Still my all-time favorite.

That is for sure. A person who wants to be the best at what they are doing should be all ears. As Megan Taylor had a penchant for doing...you have to be able to take away the noise and hear the message. Then apply it. Gahan obviously figured that out big time and it paid off for her. I hope some of these young girls will figure it out. They are on the big stage and have tremendous opportunities in front of them. But, just like everyone else on the big stage they have to pay their dues - (hard work, listen and apply what the coaches tell you, more hard work, even harder work).

Very true. Listening, learning and applying takes maturity. This is a young team. Maybe it's expecting too much.

Gahan and others had time to mature because there were experienced players they could learn from. Almost all of ISU's new PGs until last year transitioned into the system under senior PGs. The same might be said for other guards as well. Has the back court ever been this inexperienced?

Also, don't you think there was a lot less noise in Gahan's day? With all the social media, texting, etc., how do players stay focused on the important messages? How do they stay focused for 40 minutes in a game when they probably don't have 40 minutes of uninterrupted/stay-on-task time in their regular routine?

Much was written on CF about Fennelly's blow ups on the sideline.

    Schroll leaves.

Gahan shows up in Ames, at a game and gives an Ames Tribune interview.

Gahan talks openly about hating Fennelly. Gahan changes.

Gahan gives a pep talk to the team.

    All very coincidental.

I don't think it's coincidental but like Acoustimac said that it takes a certain degree of maturity of takes the noise out to find the message. These players have been successful in their careers under BF. Some of the current players might benefit from listening to them.
