    Re: What constitutes binge drinking?

9 drinks might qualify, but it depends on the period in which it was done. I'd disagree with 4-5 drinks (the level the govt uses), which is why i find it hard to take a lot of stories seriously when they talk about 'binge drinking

Health officials estimate that about half of the beer, wine and liquor consumed in the United States by adults each year is downed during binge drinking.
This is because of the wide brush they use to define binge drinking. Most drinking situations outside of a beer with dinner, are classified as binge drinking. If i go spend a few hours at the bar, and drink a beer or two an hour, that's binge drinking according to the govt.

I was tired of being part of this statistic, so I just started drinking grain alcohol in mugs. Two drinks over a couple hours and I'm pretty much cashed and also three drinks short of being one of those dirty, dirty binge drinkers.

I agree with that. If you specify something like 4-5 drinks in an hour, that's one thing. But the way a sitting is defined, I could mow the lawn in the morning, have a beer, turn on the football game, have 2 beers, take a nap, then go out to dinner and have another beer and have it be considered a drinking binge.

    Re: What constitutes binge drinking?

I could have 1 - 20 drinks depending on the reason, if it's a tailgating day, 20, between the 6 hrs before the game, couple hours tailgating after, then tack on the bars after that, depending on how late the game. A normal day I usually have one or two with dinner, went out to the bar and had 3 tonight ... but I realized by chance it's the first I've drank in a week.

Not really though. It's pretty loosely defined, but I've always understood it to be 4 or 5 drinks in one sitting, or at one event, etc. So 4 or 5 beers throughout the course of a Saturday of multiple activities would not count as "binge drinking". Going to the bar for 3 hours to watch a game and knocking back 5 or 6 beers would count.

I am definitley a binge drinker and not afraid to say it. What's the point of drinking if you're not going to get messed up. Very rarely do i have 1-3 beers. Once I start i usually empty a 12 pack.

I really, really like the taste of beer and don't always want a hangover at work. A lot of nights during the week I'll have 1-3 beers with/after dinner.

The idea of 4-5 drinks being binge drinking is ridiculous. It's not binge drinking if you aren't covered in vomit or urine.

In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.
