Early 2012 Big 12 power rankings

Early 2012 Big 12 power rankings - College Football Nation Blog - ESPN

    1) Oklahoma
    2) KSU
    3) West Virginia
    4) TCU
    5) Oklahoma State
    6) Texas
    7) Baylor
    8) Texas Tech
    9) Iowa State: The Cyclones may have a bit of a quarterback controversy in the spring after Steele Jantz reclaimed the quarterback job in the second half of the Pinstripe Bowl. Paul Rhoads joked about it after the game, but he's not joking when it comes to needing one of those guys to push the other. Jared Barnett has more upside, and the Cyclones could certainly grab a third bowl bid in four years if he plays well in 2012. ISU's a good team, but it's stuck in an absurdly deep conference that could have as many as seven (six, most likely, depending on RG3) Top-25 teams to start the season.
    10) Kansas

Re: Early 2012 Big 12 power rankings

I know nothing about any other team in the Big 12 as far as what they lose and what they bring back except for ISU. Putting ISU lower than Tech is foolish...

How many points do we have to beat Tech by this year to get a little respect? I mean c'mon man...

Re: Early 2012 Big 12 power rankings

It's a little surprising, but that whole group from #6 through # 9 could easil flip flop in order based on what we saw last season. And I know Okie State loses a lot of talent, but to assume that they'll drop that far down is ridiculous. TCU and WVU are very solid, but the first season in a new conference doesn't always go all that great. Ask Nebby and Colorado how it's going so far.

I think we can jump to 7 over Tech and Griffin-less Baylor.

I think besides OU, the rest is relatively up for grabs. I wouldn't go as far as to say we should win those games, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to think we cant.

If you ask the basketball analysts outside the state of Iowa I think you would be surprised to hear their responses. Iowa was pegged as a preseason top 5 team by one ESPN analyst and is ranked in the vast, vast majority of preseason top 25 polls

I'm surprised an ESPN analyst has Texas as low as #6. That certainly isn't going to help sell the longhorn network.

Next year, baring the play of our QB, we coul-d have a REALLY decent team, this is the year we would shock the nation and win 8,9, hell maybe even 10 games. Our schedule won't be what it was the last 2 years.

Weird. A publication that puts ISU in last or next to last place. ESPN is clueless.

Holding the "quarterback controversy" over our heads, cause it mattered last season? Clueless. Aside from Richardson, Steele and Jared will have a load of experience behind them and production at the quarterback position will be way up from 2011.

Re: Early 2012 Big 12 power rankings

lol, good. We get more good pub when we win and no one expects us to.

We looked terrible against a decent Big East team. I don't understand TTU though, WTF? Maybe they feel they are due against us, I don't konw. Either way though, the way they finished the season, I don't have too much of a problem with this. We have to win more consitently to get some praise. We had to pull off a miracle game to go Bowling this year. So far I think we are becoming known as an upset team, not yet a consistent winner.

Re: Early 2012 Big 12 power rankings

ISU beat Tech 41-7 and is ranked behind them?

Also, I don't think KSU has another season where all the chips fall their way again next year.

Re: Early 2012 Big 12 power rankings

I think ISU will be above Tech, Baylor, and possibly Texas next year along with KU. Texas' QB position is **** poor, but they could have a dominant defense next year and could probably do the same with their running game.

And I know TCU is really good, but you can't know how they will handle a big boy schedule for 9 straight weeks. I do expect them to be better than ISU, but not that high.

Also OkState has a LOT of talent to replace and will have a first year starter playing QB.

Kstate had an Iowa 2009 type year when it came to close games, winning all of them except OkState. I doubt they can keep that up, so they better be able to win a little more comfortably.

I think a lot of you guys are underestimating Baylor. Granted, they will be worse than this year because the amount of playmakers lost, but Briles has recruited well. Their backup QB looked pretty good vs. Tech too.

Texas will be good just because of their defense. Their offense can probably only improve.

I agree with you about TCU and think the same probably could be said about WVU (to a lesser extent).

I guess we don't know how the schedule will be set up yet, but Tech, Baylor, and KSU "should" be coming to Ames. KU on the road. That is four teams we should be very competitive with. KSU was fairly overrated to be in the top ten. If they play a mistake free game, they can hang with a lot of teams, but I certainly expect us to give them a very good games in Ames next year. Pull our annual upset (OU #1 would be SWEEET), and we are at five conference wins instead of 3 this year.

No idea about UT or TCU. Both will have more talent, but who knows.

I cannot comprehend how ISU is below Tech given that we destroyed them and they have to travel to Ames next year.
