    Should Omaha keep Rosenblatt?

I'm kind of wondering how people outside the Omaha might think about this. There is a bit of a to-do about the issue of tearing down the old Rosenblatt stadium and building a new ballpark, or renovating it. The mayor is totally behind building a new stadium, and will likely do it without a general vote. There is a growing 'Save Rosenblatt' movement, though.

I am firmly behind building a new stadium, for several reasons.

    1) It would do the most to insure than we are able to keep the College World Series for a long time. The NCAA has a long 'wish' list, and many of the items on the list are simply not possible at all with the old stadium.

    2) Involving Council Bluffs. Even though the old stadium is next to the river, for all practical purposes it is miles from Council Bluffs. As a result, Council Bluffs has very little real involvement with the CWS. This would be totally different with the new stadium, though. A new stadium would very likely be built right next to the new pedestrian bridge being built over the Missouri river. As a result, I could easily envision Council Bluffs building parking and tailgating facilities next to the new bridge on their side of the river, allowing people to easily then walk to the stadium for the games.

    3) Omaha has a very beautiful zoo, but it is hemmed in on almost all sides. If the old stadium were torn down, the land could be given to the zoo for expansion, allowing for all sorts of new exhibits.

I am all for it if the zoo can move in. I cannot wait to start taking the boys there.

I have never been to the CWS but hear it is a blast. But I have been to the zoo many times, and I have no doubt they could put that space to great use.

I think Omaha does a great job with the CWS and I am all in favor of anything they can do to keep it there. I also like the Big XII conference tournament in OKC. They do a great job with it and the bricktown area is perfect for hosting it. I know it's selfish and based on nothing more than selfishness, but I don't want to see it go back to TX.

The zoo, from a very good source of mine, is not after the ballpark. That is Fahey trying to anchor North Omaha at expense of South Omaha. By the way, one of our sponsors pm this website is loveaccess.com. Our team could use a little love if we beat TT. 116M.

They may not be after it, but if it came down to building a new park and that area opening up. I can't see why they wouldn't take it.

The zoo director came out yesterday in the OWH and said they have no attractions or plans to build the whale pit. It is a matter of fund raising. They are tapped out.

    Re: Should Omaha keep Rosenblatt?

no new stadium, Rosenblatt is a perfectly fine stadium and putting up the money to build a new stadium makes no sense to me, the new stadium is more about the Omaha Royals being unhappy in Rosenblatt than anything else. The NCAA would be idiots to leave Omaha with the following they have built there, I just don't see how moving the stadium downtown is going to help anything, it is going to hurt, parking won't be as good, probably, even though the parking isn't great and also what is the "bricktown" area, by that do you mean the Old Market in Omaha? I am Omaha born and both my parents are from that area, Rosenblatt is full of history and tearing it down would be stupid. The zoo does not need that much more space to expand. They want to build a new stadium to conform to stadium trends more than anything and it really doesn't make sense. Rosenblatt has an unbelievable atmosphere, not saying that the new stadium would be different, I just don't see it. Ohh and how is the stadium far from Council Bluffs, that really makes absolutely no sense, it isn't right across the street from the crappy part of Council Bluffs, uh oh, isn't that a good thing.

NCAA wants hotels around a stadium. Snobs. The chance of hotels for two weeks will not happen in South O.

Sorry - "bricktown" was part of a tangent referring to the Big XII tournament in Oklahoma City. It's a great spot for baseball...

    Re: Should Omaha keep Rosenblatt?

I am for keeping Rosenblatt. I believe I had a thread about it a month or so ago....anyways, I think Fahey might be going about this a little to aggressively. From what I've heard, all Omahans aren't happy about having a new stadium (and the new tax) being forced upon them without a vote.

Indianopolis is thinking of bidding. Fahey wants 20 year guarantee and tax food/hotels 2 per cent to pay for it.

I had the opportunity to walk through Rosenblatt this spring-it's a dump. Sec Taylor........errrrrrrr Principal Park looks like the Ballpark at Camden Yards in comparison.

    Re: Should Omaha keep Rosenblatt?

Although I'd like to see the CWS stay at Rosenblatt, I'm afraid the NCAA may move the CWS from Omaha if they don't build a new stadium. I guess I'd rather see the CWS in Omaha in a new stadium than the CWS moved to another city.

They could use the space indirectly, at least. Anyone who has ever gone to the Omaha zoo knows that parking there is a pain, especially when there are games going on nxt door. If the stadium were moved, the zoo could use the old stadium parking lots.
