Johnson is always a good fill in out in the outfield.

    Re: Cubs Resign Reed Johnson

I like this signing. Reed is a value guy who can have success, particularly against lefties.

ETA: Seems like it fits with Theo's approach of signing value guys who may not be the big name but provide solid numbers.

I have no problem with this either. He's great as a backup OF and is the kind of guy that could start for several weeks straight without a big dropoff if someone got hurt.

Glad to have him aboard! Reed has always been a solid Cub (when we have him here).

Good move for the Cubs. Gives you a chance to dump him next year without issue if there are real outfielders on the market. He's a solid backup.

I'm waiting to see if they deal Byrd or Soriano somehow even if they eat most of Soriano's contract. At some point need to make room for Brett Jackson and Campana and especially if they are able to sign Cespedes he's a guy that would need to be playing everyday.

Too bad the Cubs can't find more guys like Reed @ 1mil/year.
It's staggering how invaluable I've always thought he was and his pay level. The guy hustles, and that's almost non-existent anymore.

I will always think of Reed's catch to steal a Grand Slam from Prince Fielder whenever I think of Johnson.

He's probably been my favorite Cub player over the past several years. He gets it. It seems like most everyone else on the team doesn't, with the exception of Byrd.

I really like Reed as a utility OF, guessing Theo will fill the roster holes with 1 year deals and look to move them for prospects at the trade deadline.

I always think of the first catch on that page. I can't look at him without seeing that bent-upwards bill on his cap.

Campana is a pinch runner and late-inning defensive replacement. Period. If he sees any playing time above and beyond that, the Cubs are beyond hope.

You can say pretty much the exact same thing for Reed Johnson.

Neither of those players plays every day on a good team. Simple as that.

if he can find a way to get a OBP above 350 he'll play everyday in LF. For now he'll be in the mix of guys that get a look.
