    Re: MESS named OC

They moved him to Wide Recievers this year because he did so well with the TE's and Special Teams. So you can't count his wide receiver success with only one year of coaching them.

    Re: MESS named OC

I like the hire. Coach Mess is a Coach, and has proven it with the Tight Ends and the improved performance of the WR's this year, especially the young guys. We need someone that is a teacher first and system guy second. Mess I am sure has some great ideas on how to improve the offense. Hopefully, he is hands on like CPR and is on the sidelines during games.

Yeah, he's a noob at this deal, doesn't have a clue.

    I agree. I think it's a good hire.

We know the terminology and system will stay the same which is better for the players.

The one thing people need to remember is just because the system stays the same doesn't mean the play calling will. For all we know Mess could be 10 times as aggressive as Herman was with his play calls. Just because the offensive terminology and sets will be the same doesn't mean it will be the same results as under Herman.

    Re: MESS named OC

Someone mentioned this wasn't a sexy hire, but I'm fine with that. I trust Rhoads.

We have a larger pool of money but you also don't want to constantly make outside hires. If you don't promote from within from time to time then what is the incentive for coaches to stick around?

If Mess can adjust when faced with adversity on the field and can utilitize the talent we have in a creative way to make it work, im all for it.

I think you have to trust CPR on this. He wants to win more than anyone. If he thinks Messingham is the right guy for his offense, then he would be in a position to know since he's worked with him closely.

    Re: MESS named OC

Good for him. I like the hire and had a hunch that CPR would hire from within all along. He deserves a shot to prove himself in a larger role. It allows for the players to not skip a beat in terms of understanding the offense.

Exactly, just because he worked under Herman doesn't mean he agreed with all Hermans play calling. When I played I was very vocal on the sidelines about playcalling (offensive and defensive) got me some bad looks from coaches but oh well.

    Re: MESS named OC

I talked with Mess a bit at last year's recruiting party, and must say I'm a fan. Down to earth guy who is very passionate about this team, just like CPR. I could tell he is ALL IN, & I fully support this decision.

Pretty much exactly what I was going to say.

The other thing I'd add is that WRs improved quite a bit from last year to this year. The seniors were still dropping balls, but guys were getting open much more frequently and actually getting the fabled YAC.

In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.

It doesn't scream "Wow!" but he's probably a great hire. CPR knows what he's doing.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

    Re: MESS named OC

I like it. Special teams, tight ends, and receivers all improved under his watch and he's a known quantity to the players. He strikes me as a sharp guy that's seen a lot in his day. I think he'll adjust better on the fly than Hermann did and will be a better game planner overall.

And ultimately, I trust CPR so if it's good enough for him, it's more than good enough for me.
