Time to bring up an old topic: iPhone v. Android

I have never owned a smartphone. My current cell phone is on its last legs and I think I am going to take the plunge into the 21st century and get a smartphone. Verizon is my carrier.

I've looked at the iPhone 4S, Droid Razr, Droid Bionic, Droid X2, and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

Of those, what say you CycloneFanatic? I've read reviews of all phones and almost all reviews comparing these phones are all different. Some prefer the iPhone, some prefer the Nexus, some prefer the Razr.

Who has these phones and what should I look for? The Verizon folks tell me that they sell, by far, more iPhones than anything else, mostly because they are easier to use than the Android based phones.

I've had both. I give the iPhone the edge for one reason alone: Battery life. I can sometimes go four days on a charge.

That is, by far, a false statement on the part of Verizon. The iPhone is no easier to use than an android phone. They sell more iPhones than android phones because there is only one Apple phone: the iPhone. Meanwhile, there are at least 2 or three different Android models coming out each month.

The bottom line: If you want to use 4G any time within the next 2 years (and you will) buy an Android phone with 4G capability. The iPhone is not 4G capable so for the next 2 years you will be locked in to your old phone with internet speeds 1/10th of everyone else.

As to what Android phone, that is up to you. Personally, I just bought the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. It's got a few issues, but overall it is a good phone. For me, it was between the Nexus & the HTC Rezound. I eliminated the Razr from the choice because the battery is not removable.

Still using a HTC Evo and loving it!
I've only tried out some of the apple features on some of my friends phones but I don't see anywhere that it is better than what Android can offer today.

honestly i'm sure they're both great...i've had two iphones and have a mac laptop, i like the way my iphone works seamlessly with my mac, and it just seems to work the way i want it to, i've messed with a few android phones in the past they just don't seem as intuitive to me

Re: Time to bring up an old topic: iPhone v. Android

iPhone if you want the simplest smartphone experience, Android if you like freedom and customization options. Simple as that. 4S is a great phone if you're going that route.

The Android decision is tougher. I see you left the HTC Rezound off the list. The Rezound, RAZR and Nexus are the 3 to own. Rezound and Nexus both have beautiful 720p HD screens, though the RAZR makes qHD look pretty good. Can't go wrong with any of these 3. Personally I dislike Motorola phones, and the Nexus is huge. The Rezound is the way I'm leaning. Feels good in hand, and I'm a fan of HTC Sense, though the Nexus is really tough to say no to.

Re: Time to bring up an old topic: iPhone v. Android

Not sure if most will agree with this or not, but in my experience (15 years in education) using both Apple and PC based products, the technology in the Apple products is 'good' longer than that in PC or Windows based products. Basically both update all the time; however, the PC updates tend to be 'bigger' or more significant.

IF you have ever seen the movie the "Pirates of Silicon Valley" (about Apple vs Windows or Jobs vs Gates) I highly suggest it. The best, or most significant exchange in the movie...

Jobs: "We are better than you!"

    Gates: "It doesn't matter."

    Think about it...

Re: Time to bring up an old topic: iPhone v. Android

I have both and use both. I'm so heavy on email that I tend to use my Galaxy Nexus more. To me the iPhone is better at music, games, and entertainment; Android is better at email.

If you aren't very tech savy I'd go iPhone for sure.
