    Re: FINALLY.....Martz gone

You're happy about this? I realize Martz is a stubborn, arrogant SOB, but the offense was humming mid-season before Cutler and Forte got hurt. It's fun when the offense actually plays to win, rather than simply trying not to make mistakes. Maybe it won't be such a big dropoff with Tice, but suffering through the Ron Turner and John Shoop years were miserable.

Im not happy about this. The bears offense was doing awesome until Cutler got hurt. It is the GMs fault for not having adequate backups for the Bears offense.

Curious timing. I know a college team that is ready to announce a new OC. Who would have thought we would end up with Martz?

This. I doubt there are more than a handful of OC out there that could have had the Bears playing near as well offensively as they were before Cutler went down. I hope all the people who are glad he is gone realize how tough it is to be productive on offense with a terrible offensive line and not one big play reciever. I thought Martz did a pretty solid job as an OC.

    Re: FINALLY.....Martz gone

Not a Bears fan, but I have come to respect and generally like the team from my years living in Chicago. I see this as a good move. Martz is just one of those square peg/round hole guys. It doesn't matter how good the running game was, he would still throw it way more than he should've. He reminds me of a young child with chicken pox. You can tell the kid not to scratch and that it will hurt them in the long run, but they still scratch like crazy. That is Martz with the passing game.

Martz is a great OC. Its too bad Scott Pioli is too stubborn to let the Chiefs have another QB other than Cassel and that Martz doesn't like TE's because I'd love to have him in KC with our WR's.

    Re: FINALLY.....Martz gone

I admit I liked the Martz signing cause for once I thought the Bears were actually serious about playing offense and Martz is supposedly an offensive genius. However I really didn't see it. I saw a guy who was set in his ways and wouldn't adapt to his personnel. There are a lot of offenses out there that look better to me then Martz's. Can say it was a personnel problem but he did drive out Olsen and replaced him with Spaeth and Williams.

Its not happening, but I would love it. Dude works magic with QB's and thats what we need in the worst way right now. We are still better off with a OC more similar to the system we are currently running though.

    Re: FINALLY.....Martz gone

Speaking as a football fan, what the Bears need is an offensive line. Cutler has taken a beating since he came to Chicago.

I know people questioned him last year after he sat out the second half of that playoff game but week in and week out he got blasted every time he dropped back to pass and got up time and time again. It was only a matter of time before he got injured. He isn't mobile enough to buy the time that the offensive line isn't giving him.

Completely disagree with this. Cutler does a great job of moving around in the pocket and avoiding sacks. He's not mobile in the sense he will take off and scramble for long gains, but he is very good at moving within the pocket to stay alive.

That's what I thought, too, before he came to Chicago. Then, it became apparent that he is a stubborn ******* who will always try to force the square peg in the round hole no matter who tells him it won't work, simply because "It's my system and my system works, dammit!".

Good luck to whomever hires him, if anyone.

    Re: FINALLY.....Martz gone

Martz has never been a good fit at the Bears who have a run first philosophy. A lot of credit for the Offense improving has to go to Mike Tice who has worked with a terrible OLine and protected Jay better. It started working because Cutler is very accurate. Considering the talent level at WR it was remarkable the 7-3 start. Jay gets a lot of hate, and rightfully so, due to his personality being awful. His arm has never been a question mark nor should his toughness. Guy takes a beating.

To be honest, not sure why Martz ever took the job, and I do believe he was sincerely trying.
