    Steve Loney....

Former ISU offensive coordinator under McCarney during the Sage-Seneca days. Ran a type of spread, and from all accounts a great play caller and offensive mind. Has I State ties and is out of work with Rams coaches all getting the ax. He's 59 years old, and would be a great influence on the staff. Thoughts?

    Re: Steve Loney....

I liked Loney's play calling but I'm not sure we are built for his offense right now. Would be more suited with a pocket passer and a O-line built to run between tackles 40+ times per game.

Our offense was pretty damn solid back then. We lost because we couldn't play D.

Our O-line play was never better than under Loney, but I doubt he wants the job.

You shut the hell up MartyFine. From here on out, MartyFine is no longer allowed to post in threads about Offensive Coordinators. We can NOT revisit the Fine era.
What the heck does MartyFine know about Offensive Line play anyways? Maybe what not to do?

Our offense was pretty good under Loney, but I don't think we are set up to go back to that style. I think the administration burned some bridges with him by not showing interest in him when they were looking for a HC, twice.
However, if we were looking for an OL coach and he wanted the job, I would take him.

    Re: Steve Loney....

Loney is a great OL coach. He is a pretty good OC. I think he could adapt his offensive style to more of a spread attack if that's what Rhoads wants.

He has a passion for ISU that is unmatched, that I can assure you.

    Re: Steve Loney....

New style of play. May be a great addition somewhere else - maybe north Texas?

    Re: Steve Loney....

Remember, Loney and Paul Rhoads worked together on Mac's staff so there is a history. If CPR feels comfortable that Loney's style would work at ISU now there may be some serious consideration.
