    Chargers to fire Turner?

I have always thought the guy was nothing better than an average OC. Definitely not HC material, even though his record in SD was decent.

About time. With the talent they have and have had they should eat that division up every year.

14 years as head coach and the guy isn't even above .500 overall.

    Re: Chargers to fire Turner?

SD never should have hired him. I think when they canned Marty after going 14-2 - it was similar to what Nebraska did firing a winning coach and not many people were running for the chance to coach the Chargers.

Sad really - because that would be a great gig to have (back then). Great talent, awesome weather. Division that is not tough to win.

Norv was a good OC in Dallas - but he had some serious toys to play with. After that - he's not been good as HC or OC.

    Re: Chargers to fire Turner?

If you look up "Peter principle" in the dictionary, there is a picture of Norv Turner.

The NFL (college too, really) is littered with guys who were failures as head coaches, but were/are great coordinators. Dom Capers and Wade Phillips come to mind.

For an ISU take on it - might be interesting if we could get one of these fired head coaches who would be willing to be an OC... but tougher to do that in college than pros, though due to money difference between head and coord in ncaa. Not realistic in most cases.

    Re: Chargers to fire Turner?

The Chargers defensive coordinators keep getting head coaching jobs, Ron Rivera / Wade Philips. Although Norv does completely change his mentality in the playoffs, he goes from being aggressive to classically conservative.

Jason La Canfora: FWIW, Chargers announce Norv Turner will meet media in the morning at 1030 PT, which is his usual schedule.

    Re: Chargers to fire Turner?

First the Chargers fire Schottenheimer after going 14-2 the 2006/7 season, replaced him with Norv freaking Turner (because he wins playoff games), after winning two games playoff games in his first season and one in his second, his team fails to make the playoffs in a pathetic AFC West the last three seasons. And they decide to hang onto him because he got "hot" down the stretch?

The Chargers deserve to be mediocre to bad for the indefinite future...

Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.
