    Re: Josh Jordan update

    Thanks for the link...

Am I the only one that has a really good feeling about this kid? I think the fact that he sounds like a real student of the game and his intangibles (prototypical size for a QB) has me excited that he might be our quarterback of the future. I think our offensive gameplan is going to be a spread offense, with quick timing routes which require reading defenses and finding openings between zones. I think if he studies this much tape in high school already, he will already have a handle on reading defenses. The offense he runs sounds similar to ours, so he may be a guy that can compete right away.

I think the competition that we will have for the quarterback will no doubt benefit our team, and will require players to really study and master the game to get a let up on the other three talented quarterbacks. I think depth at quarterback (and everywhere else) has really hurt us, and allowed players to remain stagnant and not progress. Pressure coming from other players who want to beat you out looks to be something this coaching staff values. I'm very excited, and hopefully Arnaud, Bates, Tiller, or Jordan can come in next year and really excel at the position. It will be one of our big holes left after this season. Say what you want about bret, but i think he must obviously be our most legit QB this season, or else he wouldn't be playing the whole game when the game is still winnable.

    Re: Josh Jordan update

I've learned to not get overly optimistic about these kids. I remember everyone saying Kris Means wasn't going to red shirt and was going to contribute a lot his freshman year. Has he even played yet this year? Same with Josh Johnson or whatever, he ended up getting kicked off the team. I think every year we overestimate what our recruits will do for us right away. I do realize you said he could be the QB of the FUTURE, I'm just venting.

But that aside, I do agree with you that the competition will be great, but I do think that Arnaud will win out. Bates has proven he can be used elsewhere. Hopefully a couple of these guys can push Arnaud and scare him a little every off season, and then help the team out elsewhere.

    Re: Josh Jordan update

Yeah - i see what you mean. There have been quite a few guys that have broke our hearts over the years. Hopefully you're right about arnaud, i'd love to see the hometown kid win out. I guess i'm still young enough to get excited about every recruit, i haven't been disapointed enough years in a row yet...but hopefully chizik will get things turned around and headed further in the right direction. I do like what i see so far, except for the record.

    Re: Josh Jordan update

I thought originally he was going to be an athlete that would play another position, after reading that article it appears he is a pure QB???

    Re: Josh Jordan update

Every one of his games has been replayed on TV...so I have seen him play on TV...not in person. He is a big kid...no lying on his height. He has a good arm and is pretty accurate for a HS kid. He is relatively fast (has been slowed by a dinged knee) but I do not see him as an "athlete" converting to another position. Looks like he is purely a QB. As I think about it, it might be possible to see him convert to an "H" back (FB/TE combo) similar to what Robert Layne did at Ole Miss. One thing to remember, he is playing against other teams with guys getting DI scholarships every game...Louisiana is fertile ground for college players for a smaller state (similar in population to Iowa).

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

With socres of 57-54, 48-47, and some of the others I have seen I'm guessing it's not fertile ground for defense...

    Re: Josh Jordan update

Keep in mind everything to date involves verbal commitments.

On the Rivals website, there are 8 players listed as committed to us. Six of them are listed as "Solid Verbal" Tillman and Jordan are listed as "Soft Verbal".

There is a long time between now and the February signing date. I hope we get both these guys, but there are no guarantees.

You should keep in mind that Robert McFarland coached with Jordan's dad at either ULL or McNeese State "back in the day". I believe his committment is pretty solid.

sounds like a student of the game and better than i figured

He sounds perfect for our new system, but i would love to see him and Bates as recievers catching Arnaud's passes. That would be dangerous and awesome!
