We had less drops in this game than average in a college football game. The game pan set up the players to fail.

    Oopsie...well, then, how about:

Jantz: Coach, I didn't miss the field goals!
Herman: Steele, just go out there and get us into the end zone.
Jantz: Sure, Coach! As soon as I'm not running for my life, or getting sacked!

Yeah, that Herman, it's all his fault...oh yeah:

Herman: Okay, Steele, we're only down a few points, the D has them pinned back. The game is still in rea--Hey! What was that guy running past me???
Jantz: Uh, Coach, that was 86 yards...

Yep. Occupy Herman. Makes perfect sense.

I agree with the thoughts about the gameplan. It was like Rutgers baited us into whatever they wanted us to run. We line-up, look to the side, they change their defense, we look to the side, they change the defense, and we run right into them with 1 second on the play clock.

We should have smashed them over and over with Woody and White.

    Re: Herman= good riddance

It will be fun to see who CPR gets for a OC because the "O" needs some new life and direction. Yes, a change was/is needed and TH moving on is not a big deal. The players need to be put in successful situations and TH did not accomplish that too often in the last 3 years with his East-West offense. Good luck to him and let's move forward.

JB is only a Freshman so he'll improve from year 1 to year 2. Sam R. and Grant R. will provide competition so better days are ahead. I'm sure everyone needs to do a gut check and get ready for 2012.

Better days are ahead and I'm already getting pumped for next season.

    Herman on first down:
Guys, they know we are going to run straight up the middle. They know that I know that they know, so I bet running up the middle will work. If it doesn't, everyone blame it on the Oline.

    Herman on second down:
Okay, that did not work. Oline poor job executing those one-on-two blocks. They are onto the fact we want to move forward. Let's surprise them by going sideways. WRs, we do not want to tip our hand by changing anything, so I need you to stay your typical 5 yards with-in the LOS.

    Herman on third down:
Shoot, this is like getting to the other side of a möbius strip.
We kind of need to pass it now, but that is too predictable, so maybe we should run it, hmm.....I know, let's call a pass that is like a running play.

    Re: Herman= good riddance

If I had to make a comment about Herman, the first thing that comes to mind is that he is overthinking things. You can drive yourself crazy adjusting to the D changes with audibles until there's no time left on the clock. Urban Meyer will likely work some of that out of him, and better talent level players might mask some of that. Herman has a lot still to learn about coaching, but I'm sure he'll be a head coach in a few years.

This game, we'd have been better off faking the audibles and running the original play. I was disappointed they didn't adjust the playcalling or blocking schemes or something...

    Re: Herman= good riddance

Tom Herman might be a "genius" but it seems like he has always had problems getting the players ready to execute a game plan. Yeah, the play calling was sub-part tonight, but the most frustrating thing was how unprepared the whole offense was to deal with Rutgers's defensive schemes. You have a month to prepare for a defense...ONE MONTH, and neither the QB nor anyone on the O-line could figure out if a linebacker was going to blitz or not. THAT is poor coaching. Tom Herman coaches like he is playing a video game, and doesn't seem to have much ability to get players ready to compete on the field. I'm so thankful OSU pulled a Creighton and took this guy off our hands.

    Re: Herman= good riddance

OC's should be judged by how many points the offense scores and ISU just didn't put up #'s in a league that puts points on the board. I love our D though, man they were great almost all year. This offense just cannot find any consistency and didn't for 3 straight years. I hope whoever comes in can get us to the next level offensively.

Herman is like a young Norv Turner. Looks good on paper, and seems to know what he is talking about, but when you put him in a real game situation he is a pretty **** poor coach.
