Pinstripe Bowl Attendance and Pollard quote

Official numbers aren't out yet, but there were more than 40,000 tickets sold out of the 44,000 available.

Pollard has this to say about the Pinstripe:

I called Chuck Neinas, commissioner of the Big 12, this morning and shared with him that this is one of the best bowl destinations Ive ever been to, Pollard said. And Ive been the Rose Bowl and a lot of great bowls. What (Pinstripe Bowl officials) have to offer our student-athletes, no one else can compete with. I told Chuck I hope every Big 12 team gets the opportunity to come to New York City and be part of the Pinstripe Bowl at some time.

It looks like there is 20,000 people there. The place only holds 52K and is really empty.

    Good words from Pollard though.

Looks to me like 15-20,000 fans lost money then.

Looks pretty sparse except for the outfield seats.

Just from the player tweets, sounds like they really like it.

It does look fairly empty but I am glad to hear that JP was impressed with the bowl. It might not be the best location in terms of weather but it would be fun because NYC has a lot to offer.

There is always a possibility of snow and cold weather, but the average there is about what it is in Iowa right now.

Des Moines is at 43 degrees; the average December high in NYC is 42 and January is 38.

New York Weather and Climate Information

There really is no other city like New York, so that will be a very memorable experience.

There is no earthly way that they "sold" 40,000 tickets to this game.

Re: Pinstripe Bowl Attendance and Pollard quote

I was surprised at how empty the Rutgers side was. Very unimpressive showing by their fans.

They never really showed the ISU side, but it looked like we had a respectable number there.

There certainly weren't 40,000 people there, though.

Truth be told, I would have to say the parade at the Rose Bowl is somewhat better.

Re: Pinstripe Bowl Attendance and Pollard quote

Not sure how many ended up in the stands but I think the crowd was VERY slow at getting in seats. They didn't open the gates until 2 hours before kickoff and although many/most of the RU fans had at least had a chance to scope out the stadium, I'm sure it was the first time in the new Yankee Stadium for many/most of us Iowa State fans. I walked around the stadium twice trying to decide what to eat and find an ISU ball cap (souvenir selection was crap). It seemed to fill in pretty well by half time.

I was there, know Yankee Stadium and there were easily 38,000+ people in the stands. How did you see the RU fans ...... cameras appeared to be on the other side??

"ATTENDANCE - After announcing prior to the game that it had sold more than 40,000 tickets, the Yankees released that 38,328 fans actually passed through the turnstiles Friday.
That number was 54 more than the inaugural Pinstripe Bowl drew last year for Syracuse-Kansas State."

If the team finishes above .500, that's a possibility.

Back in the day, almost all bowl exhibitions were played in warm-weather locales.
